And how all of his hacker buddies are hacking for him because he's in jail. I mentioned the fact that he had been in jail for over 3 and 1/2 years without trial or bail, and he found that hard to believe. So I got him a flyer and I also printed off the front page of www.kevinmitnick.com because he would appreciate all the legal stuff. It mentions "term of fourteen (14) months for violating the terms of his supervised release imposed in an earlier case" and he pointed out to the entire class that what this means is that he violated his probation and when he does this, he doesn't get a trial and he is to serve the rest of his original sentence from back in '89 or something. I argued that this isn't the case, and they haven't found him guilty of anything. He said that he didn't get a trial. He said, "what his buddy that wrote this failed to mention was what his original sentence for the earlier case was." They can't just put him in jail without telling him that this is what they are doing or anything. I can't get it through his head that he is just being put in jail indefinitely and he is not serving a sentence. Do you guys have any suggestions? I have government again Wednesday, and I need to get something prepared before then. My best suggestion would be to get your hands on as many documents as posible and become as familier with them as possible befor class tommorrow. One thing I learned doing debate in High School, is that the one sure way to win an argument is to know twice as much as your adversary does about the subject. This means being able to pull dozens of specific examples and producing the documents to prove it. If you have the inclination, the legal documents at the website could come in quite handy here. I would also point the charges against him: a)that many of them are simply not based on *fact* and b) even if they were, it still doesn't add up to the kind of time he's facing. I would point out that thers alot of stuff involving the probation violation that simply doesn't add up and points to the FBI possibly setting him up. If you'd like, you can also point out to him, that I for one (and probably %90 of his supporters now for that matter) have never met, talked to, or associated with Kevin in any way and therfore is not a *friend* of mine in the literal. The alligation that Kevins *hacker buddies* on the outside are hacking for him is the most preposterous thing I've ever heard. I hardly think Kevin wants his name associated with anything to do with a hack or hacking right now and he is definitly not encouraging groups like the HFG to hack web sites in the name of his cause. I, for one, think that Kevin's unalienable rights, specifically the right to liberty has been cast aside by the very gov. that "Declared it's independence from the tyranny of England." There are limitless examples of Congress ignoring the Constitution. It is a prime example that we find here with the case of Kevin. The "governed" have the responsibility to take whatever action deemed necessary to alter or abolish the government that treads on their unalienable rights. Unfortunately, we (we being either the hacker society as a whole, or any free thinking member of society that sees these injustices, yet does nothing to stop it, you choose) fight amongst ourselves. Divide and conquer. We are our own worst enemies. If we could drop our petty differences for a time, and come together, we could change the world. Some say the "US Gov is the best there is, so be happy with it." I disagree, we should never "settle" for a crappy, abusive Gov. We should always strive for LIFE, LIBERTY, and THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS. Kevin is being made an example of, something every "would be" hacker should take note of. If we let the Gov tread on the rights of the Governed, well, we might as well bring back the Third Reich. Same diff. While i went outside to have a cigarete i saw two men handing out business cards for their company. About 2 minutes later a woman came out said a few words to the gentlemen and the guys left and the lady watched. I went up to them and asked why they left, they said the lady told them that they weren't allowed to hand out the business cards (SOME THING AS SMALL AS A BUSINESS CARD) in front of the jacobs javits center, when they suggested going down the block on the corner the lady said, that won't due either, they have to get off the block. I imediatly said well why didnt you tell them that its not illegal to hand out things on a sidewalk?
