Copyright law attributes one and only one "natural" right, to my knowledge, and that is the right of attribution. In other words, if I wrote it, then I have a natural right to have my name on it, and likewise a corollary right *not* to. Everything else is secured to creators as an incentive, to encourage them to create. To "promote science and the useful arts," as the Constitution puts it. Myself, I fail to see how creation is encouraged by forbidding anyone to base their works off yours. I don't quite get how it encourages people to create when you say "whatever you create is yours and only yours until you die, and then your heirs have it for another fifty years". I think it rather encourages people to create a bunch of stuff when they're young, and then sit around collecting royalties for the rest of their lives. It also deprives the world of a lot of derivative art that might be really worthwhile, and clogs the courts with stupid frivolous lawsuits about "I wrote that back in 1957 and you STOLE it". >In general, I'm with the "1Nph0 w@n+Z 2 B phr33" crowd: knowledge -- at >least "how to" knowledge, which includes software -- can't be owned. Well then, how do you know if anyone's been tampering with the bylaws? The bylaws should be kept in hard copy and distributed to people so that they all have the same bylaws. It's the only way to do it. I mean, what if you have the bylaws up on the localchapter.com site, and some guy in Sweden (apologies to the Swedes) downloads it, but then messes up the HTML? Now you've got two versions of it. On the other hand, what if your server crashes, and you lose the only existing copy of the bylaws? If everyone has it on paper, you can email...oh, say, Aaron D. Ball and say, "Hey Aaron, we lost the bylaws and were wondering if you could snailmail us a copy of it" And even if you ultimately decide NOT to mail out the bylaws, you still have to give people their membership cards, and so you'll probably have to mail those. If you're mailing out the cards, you might as well include a copy of the bylaws. And what ever happened with the charter? > On this site i > figured we would have access to flyers, and other kevin mitnick stuff. Kind of like KevinMitnick.com, right? > and anyway, if we did somehow manage to send out copies to everyone, why > would that help? Well, that way they'd know what all the rules are, so if like, they were at one of the meetings, they could do the handshake right, or so they didn't drink out of the wrong glass at the banquet. You WILL have a banquet, won't you? You could make little wallet-sized versions of the bylaws so that people could take a peek at them during the award ceremonies. > Oh so they could just lose them, or so people can Frame > it and bow down to the almighty bylaws? Look, people need to follow rules. Why else would you be writing bylaws if you didn't have important rules to have people follow? A-HA! > just doesnt make sense to me... The govt response begins: "In two remarkably misleading filings, defendant Mitnick seeks to have the trial in this matter continued..." One comment that's been made about it is that the government leaves out the fact that (although they noted that Ron Austin was employed by Mr. Sherman) they failed to mention in their 1996 motion to disqualify Richard Sherman that Ron Austin was an FBI informant... Granted, you never really say anything, do you? Just random vitriol and ego. It's cool, though .. you've got a right to play loveless and spiteful - no skin off my back. It was nice of you to include me in your little game. Actually, I was playing loveless and spiteful to the Swede, who must be commended for her(his?) continuous portrayal of someone completely without a clue. I wasn't siding with the "illiterate Swede," but was rather making light of her(his?) feeble attempts to make comment on your pervasive assoulishness. If/When Kevin is granted a continuance to give him time to review the evidence against him, will the gov't then turn the request against him to help change the perception of what they've done to him? By that, I mean they may say "Oh, he is whining about being held too long, but when _WE_ were ready to go to trial in January, _they_ made us wait till April? Is the government even vaguely interested in the perception of what they have done to Kevin? - --Dark ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Dec 1998 20:34:30 -0500 From: maverick212@juno.com Subject: Re: [mitnick] Hacking the government computers... Point yourself toward a landmark, close your eyes, and start walking. 99% of the time, you won't walk in a straight line. You'll deviate. Government has as it's aim, Freedom for all. But after 200 years, it has deviated from it's goal. If the deviation was slight, a slight course correction would be all that was needed. But if the deviation is allowed to grow larger, more and more extreme measures become necessary. The Government takes taxpayers money and gives it away. It wastes out money on pork barrel projects. It tramples our freedoms. I don't have the time to list all the examples of the above, but the Kevin Mitnick case is one example. No bail hearing, no access to evidence, the exaggeration of charges, etc, etc, etc. Now, his case alone isn't enough to justify a "revolution to take over the government". But all the cases where similar things go on, when added together, just may.... The fight will have many different fronts, and those fighting will have many different reasons for doing so, but there will be a common goal- Freedom and Justice for all. On behalf of all the Swedes on the list, I must apologize for the way that Kamikazen does behave. It's not a typically Swedish way to behave, and I guess you know that already. 2. Let's put an end to this. Let's do what this list is designed for: What to do with KDM. What to do for him and how we in any possible way could help him. 3. To Kamikazen: I accept the fact that you're a beginner, a newbie, and I do accept the fact that your english isn't the best (mine is horrible). It's brave of you to speak up and let us know your opinion. But as a beginner you could get a great start just to sit back and read the mail on the list for a few weeks. I understand that there's so much to do and it always seem to be so little time, but by reading and listening you learn so much that when you decide to speak, everybody will listen, 'cause the things that you say are interesting. We are here to discuss KDM (Kevin David Mitnick, one more thing you've learnt just by reading), not to flame each other, not to mailbomb each other and not to make people leave the list every day because they think that it sucks. Let's stop this. Right here, right now. Let's stop bugging each other. Let's get together and do what we are here to do: Let's get the world to know of Kevin Mitnick and the way he is treated. She demanded to know who "that person from North Carolina" was and whether or not they were part of the defense team. The person in question is Kerry, who has been diligently maintaining the kevinmitnick.com site and now is preparing for a possible FBI investigation because of her efforts. These documents are available to the public; anyone can request them, as long as they have the request notarized. The purpose of having financial disclosure documents for judiciaries is so that the public can ensure that judges don't have financial biases which may affect their decisions. Judges know when they turn their reports in every year that people will be able to see them. As public officials, they realize people have a right to know which companies they own stock in. This is precisely what Kerry was trying to accomplish - simply ensuring that the judge does not have any financial holdings that might give her a bias in this case. Journalists, legal researchers, and ordinary people request these reports without a problem. Does the judge think that everyone associated with Kevin is out to get her? - ----- Another hearing is scheduled for Thursday where the issues of delaying the trial and not having access to the evidence are expected to be addressed. emmanuel ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 06:34:22 -0400 From: che guevara Subject: Re: [mitnick] on tv tonight actually...i think it was on the history channel. i don't know. i was channel surfing at 7 for the A&E thing, but I came upon a segment of the 20th Century about computer crime...it had a segment on the Morris Internet Worm, phreaking, and some other stuff, but no Mitnick stuff. - -- che guevara "I never think of the future - it comes soon enough." Seems to me like the goverment doesnt want to play by all the rules and gets upset when the defense actually does. Judge Pfaelzer really has no reason to be offended by Kerry's actions here since its a matter of law so it can only come down to fear: fear that her credit cards might be cancelled or her past may be erased using this information. Either that or she actually has something to hide. In any event, good luck Kerry if the FBI actaully does decide to begin an investigation. My guess is the feds dont think they have destroyed enough ppls lives yet over this matter. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 3 Dec 1998 10:05:58 -0500 From: "Geoffrey Rollins" Subject: Re: [mitnick] unsubscribe goto majordomo@2600.com to unsubscribe. - ----- Original Message ----- From: Bronc To: Sent: Wednesday, December 02, 1998 3:11 PM Subject: [mitnick] unsubscribe >unsubscribe from > > >Bronc Buster > > ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 03 Dec 1998 15:14:45 -0200 From: "§küll" Subject: Re: [mitnick] Let's stop this.
