Prometheus Radio Project is a non-profit working to help other non-profits get Low Power FM licenses (100-watt) in their communities. This is part of a multi-state tour to help non-profits understand how EASY it is to get a station.

A recent workshop held by the National Lawyers Guild here in Austin pointed out that these licenses will be available even to groups that are not necessarily registered 501 Non-Profits! Even I was surprised. What's more, the price for new "type-certified" transmitters are already going down. It is possible to get one for about $1,000 according to a local technician! Think about that.

How can your local environmental group, shelter, animal rights group, minority community group, neighborhood community group, labor or human rights group, or a thousand other groups pass this deal up!?!? Almost ANY non-profit is eligible. Don't feel like taking on the burden yourself? How about splitting your 24 hours a day with 2 other groups, with each of you getting 8 hours a day every day? Share the costs, share the responsibilities and share the airwaves all at the same time!

This is a SERIOUS investment that can pay off for non-profits or community groups for 10, 20 or who knows how many years. You just can't lose! There just IS NOT A BETTER INVESTMENT for diverse voices, community representation and getting issues heard than this small investment.

Don't think you can do it? That's what this workshop is all about. Learn about the application process, the requirements, your costs and your potential. Prometheus will even help you with your application. Local technicians in Texas can help you out with the technical details and get you started.

DON'T LET THESE LICENSES GO ONLY TO CHRISTIAN GROUPS!

So far, about 50% of the licenses have gone to Christian groups because they have shown more organization and interest in these licenses. They know a good value when they see one! Why aren't all the non-profits seeing the value? The only reason the FCC is issuing 50% of the licenses to Christian groups is that 50% of the applicants are coming from that community!

If you don't apply, you don't have a chance. If you DO apply, you have a better chance than you think.

PLEASE FORWARD FAR AND WIDE!

Prometheus Radio Project is a non-profit organization that works with community, grassroots, and public access groups on Low Power FM radio stations as well as discussing the campaign that led to the creation of the legal FM service and recent events in Congress that has nearly obliterated it.

Prometheus Radio Project takes to the road again March 6 thru April 4 The next Prometheus tour will begin in Philadelphia and is looking for host cities, towns, and villages in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona.

If you are interested in having us visit with your community group, media and/ or music organization, college, university, library, or any other cool group that really wants community radio in your area, contact us now!

As with our tours of the past, this tour offers workshops about the Low Power FM service (or what's left of it) and the basics of radio broadcasting and studio construction. Additionally this year, we are interested in discussing what has occurred in the past year in Congress and the involvement of incumbent broadcasters (NAB and NPR), media democracy and the politics of programming, and a 2-hour course in media analysis. We want to meet with ALL interested folks because media effects us all - even if you're not interested in applying and even if you want to, but can't find a frequency under the new restrictions!

Contact us know with your name, contact info (email, land mail, telephone, city and state) and please let us know some details about the event you would like to host. We can meet with two people or facilitate a workshop with two hundred. WHAT WE REQUIRE is nice folks to hang out with, a place to put down our sleeping bags (floors are fine), a shower, and the occasional home cooked vegetarian meal would be deeply appreciated. As always, Prometheus does not charge for our services. However, if your organization is funded (such as schools and churches) we appreciate any efforts to obtain honorariums. We appreciate donations and hope folks don't mind if we sell tee shirts and books.
