To kick off project 7 I chose Iran mainly because of the fact that I hate those fucking mullahs and their beady-eyed cunt President that currently infests the country. The other reason was that I assumed a country that was so deeply obsessed with their fucking religion would not be interested in utilizing the wide range of IPv4 addresses assigned to it. On that point I was totally incorrect and it took me about 3-4 months of painstaking and meticulous searching to gather the entire group of addresses.
This project looks at the IP space assigned to Iran and maps out what subnets, and in some cases individual IPs, are assigned to what entity. During my research I learned that Iranian networks generally do not allow reverse DNS loookups, so I didn't include DNS names.
Basically, the Iranian IP address space is assigned to 29 major entities (as of Mar 2006). By far, the largest of all of those entities is TCI. There are more than 50 unique address ranges that encompass Iran's IPv4 address space. I cannot say as to how accurate I am in my searches. Ripe's allocation list file did not have the complete picture of Iran's IPv4 space, so I had to manually search their database one subnet at a time. For that reason I suspect I've probably missed some areas of the Iranian IPv4 allocated addresses. Also, Ripe's description of some of these entities was totally incomprehensible and ladened with bad English grammar, so this made it difficult trying to ascertain what a company or entity might be. I suspect some of the descriptions were actually romanized versions of Farsi language descriptions.
