Mapping The Pakistani IPv4 Address Space

By

Back to Project Home

This project looks at the IP space assigned to Pakistan and maps out what subnets are assigned to what entity. The Pakistani IPv4 space is assigned under the Asia Pacific Registry. Unlike Iran in which Ripe.net gave out more detail, the Asia Pacific registry (www.apnic.net) did not have a lot of detail in how the Pakistani IPv4 address space was assigned. There are about 36 major and smaller entities covering about 53 seperate IP ranges that make up the Pakistani IPv4 address space at the time of this writing (Apr 2006).

Here is the listing of Pakistan's IPv4 address space:

The next groups are some miscellaneous entities with smaller

Here are some interesting entities within the Pakistani address space I was able to locate:

Pakistan International Airlines
GemNet's Pakistan Navy Route (202.5.149)
National Institute of Electronics Research & Development
A.Q. Khan Research Laboratories (210.56.0:comsats)- The website for this facility is http://www.krl.com.pk (210.56.8.46). This facility is the major nuclear enrichment center for Pakistan's nuclear arsenal.
National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA)- Their website is http://www.nepra.org.pk (202.165.227.10). They regulate Pakistan's power industry.
Water & Power Development Authority (WAPDA)- Their website is at http://202.38.50.35 (PaKnet Habib International). This entity is currently being broken up into several companies as Pakistan is slowly privatizing its power industry.
Kot Addu Power Company- Their website is located http://www.kapco.com.pk (203.128.7.13)

There were certain Pakistani entities that for some reason or another were not assigned to Pakistani address spaces. This was especially true for the Government of Pakistan. Their official website including ministries were housed in the United States. Pakistan's official government website is hosted by Cybercon in the United States. There were other groups who also had their websites hosted by this company listed below:

www.pakistan.gov.pk
www.presidentofpakistan.gov.pk
www.na.gov.pk
www.senate.gov.pk
Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC; http://www.paec.gov.pk)
Pakistan Institute of Scientific & Technical Research (Pinstech)
Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANUPP)
Chasma Nuclear Power Plant (CHASNUPP)

If those organizations and facilities are using Pakistan's assigned IPv4 address space, I was not able to find it in APNIC's registry. Other entities which showed up as being hosted in the US are:

Karachi Electric Supply Co (www.kesc.com/209.61.212.71)- This organization is hosted by HopOne Corp in Washington, DC. However, at the bottom of their main homepage was a notice which said, "powered by Gerry's Information Technology", which could be an indication they may use GerryNet's IP space as well.

Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB- www.aedb.org)- Their site is hosted by the Network Operations Center or NOC in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

National Engineering Services Pakistan (www.nespak.com.pk)- They are hosted by Layered Technologies of Dallas, Texas.

National Power Construction Company (www.npcc.com.pk)- They are hosted by ThePlanet.com in Dallas, Texas. In fact, ThePlanet.com is located about .7 miles from the Internet Exchange Point called InfoMart in Dallas. If you're not sure what that is, just look up my Project on the NSA and the Internet Exchange Points. Look under Switch & Data's report.
