It seems that it never fails. Whenever there is a major problem with products from the satellite underground, such as the card swap or a major ECM, the scam artists come out of hiding and prey on folks who just don't know any better.
The postcard below was either faxed or mailed to many people around country by DMT Tech Inc., another Scam company.
Most folks who have been in this industry for a few years are well aware of these type of scams and will foward this information to us to be investigated.
However, there are many people who just fall into the clutches of this type of scam artists and give their hard earned cash away.
Well DMT Tech, The B.S. stopped here.
May you and your fraudulent ways rot in hell!
Dear SWN,
Well, here we are again, back to step one. North Sat Technologies says throw away our plastics and come join the home of the Gold Card, etc. Now when you call, they tell you the plastics are in and the batteries are out, for how long they don't know.
Are these batteries a thing of the past, or should we do as we did with "General Cayman Marty's" cards, stick them where the sun don't shine?
This area that I'm talking about has had enough and I have no more room for all these by-pass gimmicks, that last several months and then they're gone. We know what goes up most of the time, it comes down and we also know what is done can be undone, so what's going on with the battery cards? p.s. Is there any good news for us who are still holding onto our plus module boards?
C. from NY
Dear C.
I just received my crystal ball back from the repair shop and it should be working somewhat better with
the new software upgrade.. Let me see.. The battery card as we knew it will never work again.. There is
rumor of a new battery card that should appear within 3 or 4 months. The reason for this new card is the
added ingredient of a device called an ASIC. This ASIC device is needed to compelete the data processing
for the all new and secure H card data stream. As far as the Plus Hack, according to our sources keep
watching, as it is getting closer than ever to reality.

Dear Dan,
I wanted to write and tell you how pleased I am with my first issue of the Satellite Watch News. I found the articles very interesting and informative and I was glad to see that there is still interest in the older C-band satellite systems. I did, however, have a question concerning your front page article on VideoCipher Hacking. I realize you probably receive a flood of questions from people like myself, but wondered if you could possibly pass along any further information on the AutoRoll 6.2 software. I have never heard of this particular piece of software, but I would like to see it for myself if you could possible point me in the direction of a suppliers address or phone number.
p.s. Do any of the tapes in your pirate video series cover epoxy removal on a VC II circuit board?
Todd from Miami
Dear Todd
Thanks for the comment on the Satellite Watch News, glad that you enjoy it. The Auto Roll software has
been around for the past 4 or 5 years. Check with our advertisers for availability. As far as epoxy removal,
this is accomplished with a heat gun and an exacto knife.
You heat the epoxy until it becomes pliable, then carefully remove it with the knife. You must use
extreme caution when doing, this as too much heat will damage the existing components. Also, when you
get close to the PC board, you can cut the traces on the board if you’re not careful.
Hope this helps
Dan
Dear Dan,
Enclosed is my subscription payment for another year.
I have a HTS Premier 50 receiver and a 10 ft dish. Please, in your next edition, tell me how I can receive SBS6 channel 13, so I can hear your program, which I enjoy very much, without all the static. I'm an old listener dating back 10 years.
Pete from Ohio
Dear Pete
Thanks for your renewal to the SWN. As far as your questions in regard to receiving my radio show. I
believe that you already have Ku installed on your satellite system and that you are just getting a noisy
signal. If your dish is tweaked as good as possible then try your video fine tunning for the best video and
audio.
Our transponder is known as a split transponder. This means that two uplinkers can use the same
transponder at the same time. A split transponder definitely has its draw backs, that being when two users
are on it at the same time, the TWT power output is divided in half, thus taking from the quality of both
signals. I hope that his answers some of your questions.
Dan
Note to all: The Real Audio playback of our DB1 Show is presently on hold, stay tuned for more info. Dan
Howdy All,
This month I would again like to pay tribute to a gentlelman who was truly a pioneer in the home satellite industry, that person is Shawn Kenny.. Shawn left this world in a tragic accident 5 years this October. Shawn was the type that took many risks by truly reporting on both sides of the satellite industry. Often Shawn would display information and products on his television show, Green Sheet, to keep his viewing public informed. Many times Shawn reported information that dealt with compromising the security of GI's Videocipher technology.. Reporting this type of information would put Shawn and his company at risk of losing everything in a law suit that General Instruments ultimately filed against Shawn and his company. The law suit didn't even slow Shawn down as, to the end, he continued doing what he loved best, that being, telling it the way it was.
The Canadian RCMP is at it again.. Satellite dealers in Canada seem to be having some problems with their very own RCMP..
The problem is that, without a Court order, the COPS have taken it upon themselves to declare that the American DBS systems are illegal in Canada and should not be sold or owned by a Canadian, and have been seizing satellite dealers inventories. It seems that the RCMP should relearn the meaning of legal seizure and the enforcement thereof.
Until Next Month

The fall colors are beginning to show here in the North, this is the real reason I am here!
We have alot of information here at the NEWS about how it is going in low power land. Many of you are waiting to see if the initial information on the jurisdiction of the FCC is real. Well, there are a few cases going on right now and we are following them for you. The initial response is that, yes it is, and we will give you a step by step account, so you may know for sure that the trail that is being made for you is a safe one. I believe that it is.
On to other things technical. I had mentioned to you that there are several things that can help you compete with the big stations and compare favorably with them and thereby be more likely to be listened to by the potential listener. This is how I became interested and active in what I am doing now. The specific technical item I am referring to is the compressor limiter unit. Simply stated, it automatically adjusts the volume to a fairly constant level, thereby making the psycho-acoustic effect more desirable. This is why we hear the "tennis shoe in the dryer" sound in the young buck's 81' Camaro. (You'd think they would already have enough testosterone, huh?) ANYWAY, a compressor limiter is a good thing to have, because when you go to interviews, remotes etc, as you get more professional, you will NOT want to be concerned with micro-managing your levels too. You want to stick with the issues and catch the word twisters in action! (By the way the word "Lawyer" is French for WORD TWISTER. Look it up your self!)
Also, many of your upscale pawn shops, music stores and the like will have fairly good units for not a lot of money. You may also want to order from catalogs like Musician's Friend if you want brand new equipment with factory warranty.
Also, in any audio application, the one most difficult problems is the AC hum. The most effective way to treat this malady is to run a constant (non interrupted) line to all metal chassis and making sure the the ground prong on your three prong plug is used. Oh you cut all those off when you put up your system? Sorry about your bad luck, PUT THEM BACK. That is unless you want to sound like a real experimental station and not the high quality type that we know you are.
I am seeing more equipment coming up online too. Many other companies are picking up in a market presently dominated by Ramsey kits. These are generally good, but the competition may be a good option for the discriminating user.
There are still many more topics to cover, and many other familiar ones to be expanded upon. Bear with us as we try to develop them for you.
I hope that these things are of interest and use to you and your groups, who are intested in a more throrough treatment of the issues of the day. We are not giving you just opinions here. Many of the issues and treatments are tested in the laboratory of real life. Also at some personal sacrifice of time, money and personal stress. We encourage you to call-in on the DB-1 Radio Show and chat, and read the Satellite Watch News for any other updates.
Until next month, all the best of everything to you and your families
