Hanneke at Hack-tic Headquarters
What do I do? Actually I am sort of a part time manager of a bunch of techno-anarchists. Sounds better than it is though. I am trying to co-ordinate things here, a little. Trying to make sure that everybody does what he should do, and well basically that things get done.
The Gathering
Hacking at the End of the Universe was a 3
day hacking congress. It was at the 3rd day of August
1993, and it was in the middle of
Holland in this flava called flavapol, which is absolutely flat, one or two
cities and in the middle there was this camping site and about 700 to
1000 hackers were camping there for 3 days with there tents. We had
really huge tents for podium
discussions about phone phreaking, hacking and law. Since March
93 we also have laws against hacking and phreaking in Holland. We had
a big volume discussion about networking, alternative forms of
networking and we had smaller workshops. Usual hacker stuff, social
engineering, lock picking, Unix, VMS,
well anything.
Rop and I organized HEU together. It was Rop's idea and I said well if you need any help organising it, just say and he said yes. So we organised it. It was really fun doing it. It was the first time I organized a thing as big as HEU and i really liked it and that is the main reason why they asked me to become office manager here at Hack- tic.
Who
spoke? Well alot of people spoke. The political part of the opening
speech was Emmanuel Goldstein of
2600 Magazine because, well just because we figured he had something
to say. He was a good person to do the political part of an opening
speech. And he did very well. In the 'Networking for the Masses'
podium discussion, we had some people form Antenna, it's a Dutch
organization 
linked
with APC. We had a girl who works for a foundation called Agenda,
she is doing projects with Palestinians in Palestine, trying to hook them
up to Internet to have communications with Peace groups. We had a
woman from Germany, from an alternative Hacker group in Germany,
called the FoeBud and they also made our network, they have our
mailbox. We had someone from FidoNet, we had someone form NL
net, the Dutch internet provider, we had Felipe from Hacktic Network.
Well probably some other people. We had some people dealing with
Data Radio also. In the Phone Phreaking network, we had various Phone
Phreaks from Germany, the States, and Holland, we had in the 'Hacking
and Law' forum, we wanted to have Harry Ulemvall, who is the head of
the Computer Crime Dept. of the CRI, which means Central
intelligence.
Which is a sort of police intelligence dept. He said he
would come, he was on our program for 3 months, and one week before
he had to do the thing on the podium they sent us a letter that he was
not going to come, because they were afraid that in our congress things
might happen that were not according to the law. So we had to do
without him unfortunately. Fortunately we did have someone from
CERT, otherwise we would have had only people who were pro-hacking
which would have been a little boring. We also had in that forum, we
had Rop, founder of Hacktic and we had RGB a Dutch hacker who has
been arrested twice, once before we had computer crime laws and once
after it, we had it. Well there were some people who were
there.
