Topic? COMBINE

COMBINE

Copies two or more files into a new file, one after the other. If the
new file name is the same as one of the source files, that source file
will be superseded. Otherwise, the original files remain intact.

         COMBINE file,... TO outfile[pro_code]
   or
         COMBINE outfile[pro_code] FROM file,...

where "pro_code" is a CompuServe or DEC protection code (see HELP

Individual files are protected by a protection code in CompuServe
  format:

          PROTECT pro_code file [,pro_code file] ...

          PROTECT file pro_code [,file pro_code] ...

The protection code is specified as a single number:

          (n)

The default is CompuServe (4), which allows only you, the file's owner,
to read or write the file. A protection code of (2) allows others to
access the file, but not to write it. A protection code of (6) assures
that the file cannot be deleted by you or anyone else.

Topic? Filtrn

Filtrn

FILTRN is a program which uses a specified protocol to transfer files
between microcomputers and the CompuServe system.

 Command_syntax

The FILTRN menus can be bypassed by using a single command line unless
the transfer protocol selected is CompuServe "A".

R FILTRN (UPLoad file [TO file][,file [TO file]] ...)

R FILTRN (DOWnload file [TO file][,file [TO file]] ...)

Command syntax can also be used from within FILTRN at any menu prompt.

UPLoad file [TO file][,file [TO file]] ...

DOWnload file [TO file][,file [TO file]] ...

The protocol, file type, and other options can be specified through
switches. Each of the switches can be abbreviated to one letter.

 Protocols

A protocol is a set of rules and conventions for handling
communications between a sender and a receiver. Protocol information
is specified at the first menu prompt within FILTRN. Consult the user
manual for your terminal program to determine which of these available
  protocols are supported.

 Transfer_direction

The transfer direction refers to the relationship between the source
  file and the destination file.

There are only two types of directions to consider when transferring
data. UPLoad means that the source file exists on your computer, and
that the destination file will be created on the CompuServe system.
DOWnload means that the source file already exists on the CompuServe
system, and that the destination file will be created on your system.
In either case the file naming conventions must conform to those of
your computer and the CompuServe system.

 Instructions

To initiate a file transfer, enter the following at the Programming
  Area (OK) prompt:

          R FILTRN

   CompuServe responds:
          File Transfer

          Protocol

           1 XMODEM
           2 CompuServe B+ and original B
           3 CompuServe A

           7 Kermit

          Enter Choice !

You must select a protocol from the menu that your terminal program
supports. If your terminal type is set to VIDTEX and CompuServe
determines that B protocol is supported, the protocol menu will not
appear. Processing will proceed immediately to the next menu.

          TRANSFER DIRECTION

           1 DOWnload from CompuServe
           2 UPLoad to CompuServe
           3 Exit

          Enter Choice!

  Enter either a (1 or D) for download or a (2 or U) for upload. Once a
transfer has been completed this menu will reappear. You can exit
FILTRN by entering a (3 or E). Otherwise you will be prompted:

          TRANSFER TYPE

           1 ASCII
           2 BINary

          Enter choice!

Select the appropriate file type. You are then prompted:

          Enter the CompuServe file name:

Enter an appropriate file name and extension. For a download, the file
name is the name of the existing file to be transferred to your
computer. For an upload, it is the name of the file to be created on
CompuServe. If you are not using CompuServe B protocol then the
transfer will begin. Additional input may be required depending upon
your terminal program user guide. Otherwise, you are prompted:

Enter a file name for your computer:

Enter the file specification as required by your operating system. You
can follow any of the naming rules of your system with the exception of
wild cards. When the file name is entered the transfer will begin. If
a carriage return is entered then the file names are assumed to be the
  same.

When the file transfer is completed, the message:

          *** File Transfer Completed! ***

appears, and you will return to the direction menu. FILTRN can be
  exited at this point.

In addition to menu mode FILTRN can be executed using a command syntax.
In command syntax the entire upload or download command can be entered
either from the Personal File Area or at a menu prompt (!) within
  FILTRN (see Command_syntax).
