For many people who usually live in small towns and villages far from large
urban centers, it is not always easy to connect to CompuServe. In most cases,
members in such situations must access CompuServe via a local network of
some other than the Internet. But if those people have an Internet connection, than
the problem is solved! It is possible to access CompuServe with a Telnet
program, but when it come to downloading, most programs don't support Compu-
Serve B file transfer. There is a way to connect to CompuServe via the Inter-
net using WinCIM 1.4. Of course, the use of an Internet Launcher is crucial;
it is necessary to have a launcher such as Trumpet or Chameleon to work.
Here is how to connect to CompuServe:

1. Click on Special and go to Session Settings.

2. Where it is indicated "Network", change the setting to Internet.

3. Change the "Connector" Setting to "Winsock".

4. Under the "Access Phone" type in "compuserve.com"

5. By doing the all of the above, the "LAN" button will now be available to
click on. Click on the "LAN" button and type "compuserve.com" for host name.
It is not necessary to type in an IP address.

N.B. The other settings are to be filled in according to your computer hard-
ware, software and/or configuration.

To connect to Compuserve:

1. Click on your Internet launcher (Trumpet or other) and connect to your lo-
cal server.

2. Once this done, execute WinCIM 1.4 and press connect at the first menu
you encounter in WinCIM.

You should then be connecting to the Internet and then logging onto CompuSe-
rve with WinCIM.

This way, members who are billed extra for the local network connection can
simply connect via the Internet (usually the Internet is much cheaper to con-
nect to.)
