Procedures for Access to U.S. ADP Autonet Via Datapac

Examples are shown in square brackets ([ ]).
                         <CR> represents a carriage return.

Users wishing to access hosts on ADP Autonet from the Canadian
Datapac network now have two separate services available to them.
There is the existing X.25 Service, which has been in place for
several years and the new X.75 Gateway service, both of which
will allow asynchronous terminal access. The new X.75 Gateway
          provides additional capabilities including:

Calls from Autonet to hosts on Datapac

                  Host-to-host and non-X.29 type connections

Pad parameter control using X.29 packets

To Connect: (X.25 and X.75 Services)

           1. Set either the terminal or coupler to half-duplex operation
              (not both).

           2. Dial the local access number and wait for a high-pitched
              tone.

           3. Couple the terminal to the telephone line.

For direct connect Modems, switch to DATA MODE.

For Acoustic Couplers, place the telephone receiver fir-
mly in coupler, positioning the cord as marked on
                  coupler.

           4. Type a period (.) followed by a carriage return.

                  [ . <CR> ] for 300 bps

                  [ .. <CR> ] for 1200 bps

           5. Datapac will respond with:

DATAPAC: xxxx yyyy (xxxx yyyy = Datapac and port number)

           6. To enable local character echo, type:

                  [ SET? 2:1 ]

                                          1

                  Datapac will respond with:

                  PAR 2:1

           7. Request a connection to Autonet via the X.25 or X.75 service:

                                    X.25 Service

Type the ADP Autonet address (29400094) followed by a car-
              riage return.

                  [ 29400094 <CR> ]

              Datapac will respond with:

                  DATAPAC: CALL CONNECTED

You may now proceed with the normal Autonet access pro-
cedures. Begin by typing two carriage returns.

                  [ <CR> <CR> ]

              Autonet will respond with:

                  Autonet Line xxxxxxxxxx
                  Command:

              Type:

                  [ C 8883126 <CR> ]

              Autonet will respond with:

                  CALL CONNECTED

              Signon to host as usual

                                          2

                                X.75 Gateway Service

              Type X.121 address of host.

                  [ 1 3126nnnnnnnnnn <CR> ]

                      where:

1 - signifies an International call

3126 - signifies Autonet Network Address (DNIC)

nn..n - up to 10 digit Autonet assigned host DTE
                      address

              Datapac will respond with:

                  DATAPAC: CALL CONNECTED to host

You may now proceed with the normal Autonet access pro-
dedures. Begin by typing two carriage returns.

                  [ <CR> <CR> ]

          To Disconnect:

           1. Log-off the host computer as usual.

           2. After the host clears the call Datapac will respond with:

DATAPAC: CALL CLEARED - remote request
                  DATAPAC: nnnn nnnn

           3. Either initiate another connection, or simply hang up the
              phone.

                                                                    Datapac
                                                                      Notes

Major Differences Between ADP Autonet and Datapac Access

           1. Datapac does not default to local PAD echo. Echo can be set
              by:

                  * setting either the terminal or coupler (not both) to
                  half-duplex

                  * changing the Datapac PAD echo setting with a set com-
                  mand (SET? 2:1)

           2. Datapac has fixed padding of two (2) characters for carriage
returns and no padding for line feeds and tabs. If your ter-
minal requires additional delays, you will have to use the
Autonet Communications Command Language (CCL) commands $$CR
and $$LF to insert the correct amount of delay or your ter-
minal will drop characters at the beginning of each line.

           3. If a parity error occurs, Datapac will warn you with
"DATAPAC: REENTER", and it will discard the entire input buf-
              fer.

           4. Datapac will only transmit when a carriage return is entered.
Therefore, certain characters such as Control S (CTRL S), Q
(CTRL Q), and O (CTRL O) will not produce the desired results
unless followed by a carriage return. Note that the carriage
return will be entered into your file or job.

           5. To delete characters, type backspace or Control H (CTRL H)
              characters.

           6. On the X.75 Gateway service, users must enter the numeric
X.121 host address (3126nnnnnnnnnn). However, on the X.25
service, an Autonet host name can be used at the Autonet Com-
              mand: prompt.

           7. X.25 service users have the ability to make a COLLECT call
from Datapac to Autonet and a CALLER PAID call from Autonet
to the destination host. This is not possible on the X.75
Gateway. Users wishing to make calls to a CALLER PAID host
via the X.75 Gateway, must obtain a Datapac Network User ID
(NUI) from their local Datapac Account Representative.

                  number)

           5. Type C (Connect) Command and the X.121 address (12 digits
