9600 Baud Mods *Note that modification of this equipment may void any expressed or implied warranties. The following procedures describe how to connect a 9600-bit/s packet radio modem to the AR-146/AR-446 transceiver. (If the modem is external to the transceiver you will also have to drill a hole in the bottom cover of the transceiver after removing it and install a grommet in the hole for routing the cables that interconnect the transceiver and modem.) 1. Power off the transceiver and disconnect its power cable. 2. Place the transceiver top down on your work bench with the front panel closest to you. 3. Remove the 2 screws securing the bottom cover and remove the bottom cover. 4. Near the center of the exposed printed circuit board are 2 rows of solder pins, as illustrated in the figure. One row has 16 pins and the other has 9 pins. 5. Using shielded cable, connect the center conductor of the cable to pin 2 of the 9-pin row of solder pins and connect the shield of the cable to pin 1. 6. Connect the other end of the cable to the 9600-bit/s modem by connecting the center conductor to the output of the modem and the shield to the modem ground. 7. Using shielded cable, connect the center conductor of the cable to pin 15 of the 16-pin row of solder pins and connect the shield of the cable to pin 16. 8. Connect the other end of the cable to the 9600-bit/s modem by connecting the center conductor to the input of the modem and the shield to the modem ground. 9. Replace the cover and tighten the 2 screws that secure the cover of the transceiver.
