HW24HT From: N5PTK@WB2ARS.NM.USA.NA Heath HW-24HT December 13, 1993 File prepared by Charles Gelsinger Packet Address N5PTK @ WB2ARS.NM.USA This radio is out of production and mods to this radio are scarce, but I have listed info I personally know of and would appreciate input from others with the Heath HW-24HT dual band handheld. Battery Packs Information RF Power Hi Low HWA-110 * 9.6 volt 450 mah 3.0 400mw HWA-120 13.2 volt 500 mah 5.0 400mw HWA-125 7.2 volt 700 mah 2.5 400mw * HWA-110 was the standard battery supplied with this radio. The standard cube wall charger will charge the HWA-110 in about 14-16 hours. The MOBILE adapter/charger HWA-160 charges the HWA-110 pack in about 5 hours. I have had reports that over charging with the Mobile charger will damage your battery pack ! I have had limited experience with the HWA-140 Quick charger, but I did disassemble one once and found NO overcharging protection and believe this charger will also damage your battery pack if left charging for too long. Keypad changes -- To change direct entry mode from 4 digits to 5 ie 1xx.xx0 to 1xx.xxx, enter the following keystrokes: * D # This is useful for entering frequencies that end in 5 KHZ, ie 146.525. This is a toggle function - use the same sequence again to revert back to the original mode. Also this keystroke sequence does NOT respond with a beep signaling a correct operation, but the mode does change ! --- I am aware of, but have no specific info on a hardware mod that allows out of band transmit for MARS/CAP. I don't have that mod yet. Please send any further mod info to Charles N5PTK @ WB2ARS and I will update this mod sheet as more mods become known to me. 73 END of file ---- HW-24HT ----
