Is your HW-7 afflicted with hum when you power it from the AC lines?
Does it produce microphonics when you peak the preselector or tap on 
the case?
See "New Front End for Heath HW-7," by Jerry P. Wine, KH6HKZ,in the 
December, 1973 issue of QST, pp. 23-25, for a fix.  No external changes 
need be made, and the circuit can be readily restored to original.
