Model: IC-2GAT Division: Amateur Note: This service bulletin is meant for technical per- sonnel with experience working on solid state com- munications equipment. Damage caused by im- properly installing this modification may cause ICOM to charge for subsequent repairs to the product. ICOM does not warrant this modification. Bulletin #: 14488-001 Date: May 23, 1988 Subject: If a noise is transmitted when the CTCSS tone is used. Procedure 1. Remove the 4 screws from the back of the radio. Remove the 4 screws from the battery plate on the bottom of the radio. Remove the 2 screws on the side of the radio near the PTT switch. 2. Remove the covers from the radio. 3. Unplug the speaker and DTMF pad connector from the main board. 4. Remove the screws that hold the main board onto the stan- doffs inside the radio. Remove the main board from the radio and also the shield that is underneath it. 5. Remove the antenna connector from the radio. 6. Remove the screw on the main body of the radio on the left hand side. This will release the PA brick from the side of the radio. 7. Remove the 4 standoffs and any screws that are holding the PLL RF board to the main chassis of the radio. 8. Remove the PLL RF board from the radio. 9. Replace R46 and R47 on the RF board. Original New ICOM Part Value Value P/N R46 10K chip resistor 100K chip resistor 915-01270 R47 47K chip resistor 470K chip resistor 915-04920 10. Reassemble the radio. Bulletin #: 00389-001 Date: January 3, 1989 Subject: When servicing the radio, the technician may cause failure of the +5 V source by improperly replacing crystal X-3. We have seen cases of this occur- ring. Information: When replacing reference crystal X-3, the physical location of the crystal is critical due to close spacing of coil L-17. Procedure 1. Make sure the leads of X-3 are insulated with tubing to prevent shorting. If a short does happen the VCO buffer signal will be shorted to ground and cause PLL unlock. 2. It is suggested that the body of the crystal as well as the leads be insulated to prevent contact with L-17 in the VCO circuit. 3. Do not trim the leads of the replacement crystal as all of the supplied length is required. Bulletin #: 13889-006
