Extended Recieve Modifications for the Icom 2SAT. Although not found in Icom product literature, the 2SAT can be easily expanded to cover am in the 108 to 138 mhz aircraft band. If you have an older model, cut diode d9 on the small vertical pc board located near the P.T.T. switch. You can't miss this diode, it hangs off the board, and is the only non surface mount device on that board. I am told that newer models do not have this diode. With the radio off, hold the # key, the b key and the light button and turn on the radio. The display will show all 8's for a few seconds and the expanded recieve is now enabled. The display will show coverage from 50 mhz all the way up to 1300 mhz, but the actual RX is onlt from about 110 mhz to 180 mhz. Transmit will still only work in the 140-150 range. If you would like direct entry of all digits, with radio off hold the #, 3, and light buttons and turn the radio on. For direct entry of the 10's only, use the same procedure, except hold the #, 2, and light as you turn the radio on. I have tried all these and all work on my early model 2SAT. If you need to remove the diode, BE CAREFUL! Procede at your own risk. There is not much the average ham can fix inside that rig, and a drop of solder in the wrong place can be fatal to the radio. If you have other mods for the radio, please share them with me. 73 and Good Luck. DE Rick Rinehimer, KA3QKI in Glen Lyon, PA Packet Routing KA3QKI @ K3RLI.#EPA.PA.
