The resistor is only used when the battery pack is charged by a wall charger. When the wrong wall charger is used, the resistor can burn open. When this happens, the front panel on the battery pack blisters. This type of damage is considered abuse and will not be covered under the manufacturer's warranty. The PB-2 battery pack uses the BC-2 wall charger. Both items are also carried as parts. They have the part numbers W09-0361-05 (PB-2) and W09-0315-05 (BC-2). The PB-2 is an 8.4V, 500mAH pack. The BC-2 is a 10.15V, 42.5mA charger. The PB-12 (W09-0541-05) uses a battery charger with the part number W09-0517-05. The PB-12 is a 12V, 500mAH battery pack. The charger supplies 15V at 50mA. The use of any other wall charger (especially an AC charger) will burn the resistor and void the warranty.
