Yaesu FT40R Expanded RF Modification. 420-480 Mhz, Transmit and Receive. This radio is not type accepted for use outside of the amateur 70 cm band, and transmitting with it outside of the amateur band is a violation of U.S. Federal Law. 1) Turn the radio off and remove the battery. 2) Peel off the black NiCd information seal, (under the battery) and loosen (but do not completely remove) the 2 screws on either side of the slot behind the keypad. 3) From the rear, carefully press on both screws to eject the keypad slightly, then remove the screws to free the keypad. 4) From the front of the radio, carefully pull the keypad up and toward the top of the radio. 5) Locate and unsolder the 0 ohm chip resistor at location "M" 6) Gently but firmly press the keypad back into place on the front of the radio, taking care that the gasket seals evenly around the keypad with no pinching. 7) Replace the 2 screws on the back of the radio. Do not over-tighten the screws, they are screwing into plastic. Re-attach the NiCd information seal. 8) Replace the battery. 9) Press and hold the knob and the light button, then press and hold the power button until the radio turns on.
