Gauntlet(TM) is a commercially available internetwork firewall product
from Trusted Information Systems, Inc. Version 1.0 of Gauntlet, based
on the popular TIS Internet Firewall Toolkit, adds commercial quality
documentation, management tools, reporting tools, and full commercial
support.

Gauntlet is a bastion host based firewall, using packet screening and
application gateways (proxies). It is a minimalist (conservative)
firewall implementation implementing a "That which is not expressly
permitted is prohibited" philosophy. Gauntlet is made to be configured
based on a site's security policy, and not impose one of its own. The
Gauntlet firewall, is a gateway between IP networks.

Future versions of Gauntlet, the next version due out in summer of
1994, will add a trustable HTTP (Worldwide Web, Mosaic) proxy and a
bundled hardware platform based on an Intel 486 box running BSDI's
UNIX system.  Firewall-to-firewall encryption will also be available.

Currently, the software version of Gauntlet is installed, configured,
and tested by a TIS installer at the client site over 2 days, which
includes hands-on training for the client support staff. 30 days of
telephone support is included. The cost of a Gauntlet installation is
$15,000 in the US and Canada (more overseas).
