MAJOR VERSION RELEASE OF GAUNTLET(TM) INTERNET 
FIREWALL ANNOUNCED BY TRUSTED INFORMATION SYSTEMS

LAS VEGAS, NV -- March 28, 1995 -- At the NetWorld+Interop 95 
Conference here today, Trusted Information Systems, Inc. (TIS), announced 
Version 3.0 of their Gauntlet(TM) Internet Firewall.  The Gauntlet Internet 
Firewall was announced June 1994 and is based on the TIS Internet Firewall 
Toolkit that has become a de facto Internet standard.

Firewalls provide an important layer of protection against intrusion
by unauthorized users for private networks as well as preventing
unnoticed and unauthorized export of proprietary information by
insiders.  The Gauntlet Internet Firewall continues to meet enterprise
needs in user authentication, event logging, electronic mail, file
transfer, remote terminal connections, and other TCP service access
control. All of these are provided in a "crystal box" implementation
-- the source code is included and available for examination.

Gauntlet Internet Firewall Version 3.0 offers the following enhancements:

     Transparency - Proxies are automatically started and are completely 
     transparent to applications and users.

     Firewall-to-Firewall Encryption - Hardware or software encryption 
     of data at the IP level, using the standard DES algorithm.

     User Permissions - Controls now extend to each service, each network
     node, each individual, and to the time of day.
 
     IP Interface Direction - IP "spoof proofing" based on the ability
     to detect traffic coming in through interfaces it should not. 

Also announced are two new software versions of the Gauntlet Firewall:
Gauntlet Firewall Software for BSD/OS and Gauntlet Firewall Software
for SunOS.  While the Gauntlet Firewall was previously available only
with hardware, these new software versions were developed for
customers who wish to provide their own hardware and operating system
platforms to host the firewall.  Both versions are priced at $10,000,
including installation and training.

The Internet is an incredibly valuable resource that can completely
change the way people work and communicate on a global scale.  While
the benefits of connecting to outside networks can be enormous, the
risks can be as great.  Without adequate protection, companies may be
opening their businesses to computer hackers, vandals, or industrial
spies.  The Gauntlet firewall protects the network while providing the
services users need.
