![]() I've been programming since 1973, about 31 years now. My interests and hobbies include general embedded design and microcontroller assembly level programming, compiler design, operating systems and concurrent programming, small-scale robotics, telescopes and optics, astronomy, graphics and game programming, PC hardware and software, protected mode programming, signal processing, feedback and control, micropower design, radio electronics, 80x86 assembly programming, and similar. A few years back, I was (and remain) interested in the new series of articles in Circuit Cellar by Jan Gray, "Building a RISC System in an FPGA." (Three articles in the March, April and May 2000 issues.) I purchased the recommended books and hardware (from XESS) and I'm trying to learn as much as I can from the process. Part of the reason is my interest in the Atmel AT94 (FPSLIC) and the Triscend CPU+FPGA chips. XESS has a board out for $169 and is writing a series of articles now for the Triscend TE505 part. Another part of the reason is my desire to learn to use VHDL and Verilog on a hobbyist level and to understand some of the issues of synthesis, clocking, floor planning and the like. |
