Peasanters and Philosophizers
(no, not peasants, and not philosophers. just the words match)
In "Animals" by Pink Floyd, 1977, Roger Waters divides the society into 3 groups: pigs, sheep and dogs. Not that i've read all the texts, nor i know whut else is written about person's classification (or taxonomy), but why not try myself aloud.
I also have a classification (oh, wow, what a big deal i am).
It could be a little influenced by my blackthinking and by reading science fiction, or by reading blackthinking (pessimistic) science fiction, ... and even not only science fiction.
I see 2 classes of persons. Or the two extreme ends of THIS classification (this line of classification).
The first ones, let name them Peasanters, have nothing in their heads. The live in order to exist. Exactly how is another problem.
The others, let's name them Philosophizers, have only heads. The live in order to think. What the think about is also another problem.
Of course, both ends are ugly. Everyone of us combines parts of one and parts of the other. Which one is predominating, depends on many things, including the actual context - in different fields, one happens to be classified differently according to the above.
Well, everyone searches for what s/he has not.
Peasanters have content, but have no form. Therefore they stick to any sort of flashies, colourful-ies and immitations. The contents are not so required, the important thing is the form - Form(s) for Their content.
Philosophizers can imagine innumerably many forms, but have no contents. And hence they use totally incredible things that can bring them some contents. But as they understand it - Content for Their form(s).
Peasanters have nothing to keep ticking (or yelling) in their heads and to remind them that they live, and therefore everything around that can be used as such reminder (huge clock, or pigeons, or mumbling radio, general rhythmic noise of any calibre...) is welcome. At the same time they are able to do everlasting monotonous work - it gives them the rhythm. Anyone around is welcome as well - provided s/he does Not actually do anything - not to obstruct or disturb in any way.
The uniforms and the equality are welcome - they give form. Something which any Philosophizer would not stand. Diversity leads to thinking and thinking leads to headache. Predictability is their best friend. Even if awful things are seen. The Unknown is scary, even if it could be beautiful.
The Philosophizers are on the other side of the moon. They can argue for days with or without a reason, eh, some truth may pop up (Because In argument is borne the Truth). Besides they can listen to 23 different performances of Appasionata one after another, comment on them, and ask for more. Something which no Peasanter would stand.
They have heads full of cacophony and tumult of thoughts, and that is life-making for them, and everything that tries to order and number those, or is in dissonance, is an enemy No.1. For example the abovementioned annoying stuff. And only things and persons around, which contribute to the cacophony, are welcome. Diversity stirs up the concoction and is welcome. Equality and uniformity leads to rhythm and averaging and blending, and therefore is persecuted.
But you don't think, one of them is black, the other one is white. Again, everyone has a bit of both, for the different sub-persons - different bits.
Now, when people start to gather together in groups... it becomes more interesting. The process of "putting in right shoes" begins, as the majority understands it though - by the dominating opinion, in the dominating context.
In a certain (more or less closed) society (any group of persons), when all proportions of Peasanter and Philosophizer are summed up, for all paritipants, in all points of view, in the ideal picture it should be 50%/50%.
Well, if i look behind in the previous century, and now, all the time it has been prestigious to be a Philosophizer and not to be a Peasanter. All talk about education, improvement, multifarious, culture... and how good it is.
Study, my son, for not to work.
Eh, and we got what? Just the opposite. In some places (east europe for example), 70% of the inhabitants are with higher (at least one) education (not that it is bad), knew 2-3-4 languages (it's not bad either), had the culture... er. Yes but no. From to many strains, without enough foundation, the result is a bit defective. Too high the pillar went, and started to sag. And from the one extreme we went into the other. Deserved.
In more global aspect... the American (actually, USA and the other neoenglish countries) "peasantry" as an "easy" way of living is spreading world-wide fast as a deadly virus - with basic ideas of "thinking happens to others" and "i do not care". And it Will start (or have started) to take toll soon - begin with the environment (i do not care), go through history and culture and traditions irreparably lost (thinking happens to others), and end up with one big dull gray nothing. Everyone = some number.
Eh, well, the Culture and Traditions may be not the biggest achievement of the mankind, for the Environment we have no contribution anyway (except negative) - but why demolish them?
While about the diversity and multifariousness... well, for so long, all the time, someone is trying to make all people identical, starting with school, town, country, treaty... how many wars have gone. Well, now it's about Total Identicality. Wonderful image, no?
And then what?
