Notes ==================================================== 3.1 WavePOINT Ethernet Medium Selection Note that after changing the medium selection switches, you must power-down and power-up the WavePOINT for the new settings to take effect. 3.2 Wired LAN NDIS environment When the Configurator utility will be run from a wired station, you must update the PROTOCOL.INI file with the wired card's IOBase address. Note that many vendors use different terms for IOBase address, such as "adapter-address" or "card-address". You must use the vendor's term for referring to the IO-address of the wired card. 3.3 PCMCIA adapters When using a PCMCIA adapter, you may need to change the CONFIG.SYS file of the Environment diskette. When creating the environment diskette, the CONFIG.SYS file will contain a line for the WaveLAN Enabler Program: DEVICE = ENABLER.SYS /i=11 /m=d000 /b=300 If required, change these settings to match the actual WaveLAN card settings. This device line does not affect normal operation of PC's that do not have PCMCIA slots. 3.4 Point-to-Point diagnostics To avoid unexpected measurement results, Point-to-Point diagnostics will not display WaveLAN/PCMCIA stations that have the WaveLAN Power Management functionality enabled. To run a Point-to-Point link with these stations either disable Power Management or Reboot the station from the utilities diskette. 4. Functionality added in Version wp4.50 4.1 WaveLAN 2.4 GHz Channel Selection option This function is now also available for WavePOINT types 0118 and 0138. 5. Problems solved in Version wp4.50 ==================================================== 5.1 Description of problem SNMP requests with a negative request-id number are incorrectly handled by the WavePOINT. The SNMP response sent by the WavePOINT SNMP agent will in such a case not match the request-id. Impact SNMP Requests with a negative request-id will not succeed. Action Solved in wp4.50 5.2 Description of problem SNMP requests for the IP subnet mask of the WavePOINT were responded to with a value of all zero's (the WavePOINT default subnet mask). Some SNMP management tools (e.g. HP OpenView) log this as an error. Impact Some SNMP management tools will report that the IP subnet mask of the WavePOINT is invalid. Action The configurator and WavePOINT image in this release support a user defined IP subnet mask. When configuring the WavePOINT, the correct subnetmask should be configured in the "configure-advanced" section of the configurator utility. 6. Outstanding Functional Problems in release wp4.50: ==================================================== At the time of release of this software, the following problems are outstanding: 6.1 Description of Problem The dynamic filter ageing timer is not yet implemented. Setting the "filter ageing time" parameter in the Configurator will have no effect. Impact Filter entries will not be aged. After a while, in large networks, this may lead to some pollution of the WavePOINT filter table, causing a small performance degradation (less than 1%). Furthermore, if the filter table is full it will be cleared. Action None. 6.2 Description of Problem Large SNMP output response messages (about 1540 bytes) are incorrectly identified as erroneous and dropped. Impact A request, via SNMP, for a response message which is about 1540 bytes will fail. Chances that a response message of this size is created are small. Action None. 6.3 Description of Problem The SNMP counters counting "UDP frames in error" and "ICMP frames in error" are not incremented. Impact These error counters are for the SNMP protocol stack itself. Errors in frames on this protocol refer to errors in SNMP transmissions itself. Action None. 6.4 Description of Problem When using Point-to-Point Diagnostics or the Access Control Table Manager the I/O address 3C0 can be selected for the WaveLAN card. This address may conflict with the EGA/VGA adapter. Impact On a workstation with a EGA/VGA adapter selecting IOBase address 3C0 may disable the display, i.e. the screen will go blank. Action Do not use 3C0 as an IOBase address unless you are sure the WaveLAN card is at this address and there is no conflict with the display adapter. 7. WavePOINT MIB's ==================================================== The directory \MIB contains the MIB definitions needed to manage the WavePOINT via SNMP. These MIB definitions have to be loaded into your management station. Note, that your management station may already have loaded the standard (RFC) MIB's. WavePOINT supports the following MIB's: MIB II (RFC 1213) file: RFC1213.MIB Ethernet-like MIB (RFC 1398) file: RFC1398.MIB Bridge MIB (RFC 1493) file: RFC1493.MIB WaveLAN MIB file: WAVELAN.MIB WavePOINT MIB file: WAVEPNT.MIB (note: RFC 1286 can also be used for the Bridge MIB; for WavePOINT there is no difference) The following OID tree specifies which objects of these MIBs are supported, and to what extent, using the following keys in column 1: I = Implemented as described in the MIB specification. R = Implemented as Read-only, where the MIB specification specifies read-write. Z = Implemented such that it always reads Zero or null (object not applicable). N = Not implemented.
