    Security

WaveLAN is a secure LAN medium. It uses the same security features as wired systems, such as user names and passwords.
To secure wireless transmissions WaveLAN makes use of four additional security mechanisms:

DSSS Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technique will protect the signal against eavesdropping. The signal will yield unintelligible results, unless a WaveLAN ( or WaveLAN compatible) product is used to decode it.
NWID The WaveLAN Network ID is a four digit hexadecimal code that logically connects wireless stations belonging to the same wireless group, like cabling physically connects stations in a wired network. Without the WaveLAN Network ID, a third party can neither connect to the wireless network, nor capture a message.
Encryption WaveLAN products can be equipped with an optional Security Feature that allows encryption of transmitted data. The Security feature uses either the Data Encryption Standard (DES) or the Advanced Encryption Scheme (AES).
Access Control The Access Control feature for WavePOINT allows you to identify specific stations that will be authorized to send and receive communications across a WavePOINT.

    Reliability

DSSS WaveLAN uses Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) modulation. A unique code built into the WaveLAN product spreads the signal multiple times over the waveband to assure reliable communications.
CSMA/CA The CSMA/CA protocol, manages access to the wireless medium, to avoid messages getting lost due to frame collisions. WaveLAN CSMA/CA (Carrier Sense Multiple Access / Collision Avoidance) is similar to the IEEE 802.3 standard CSMA/CD (Collision Detect).

    Performance

The performance of WaveLAN is on the same order as wired LANs. Studies, tests and experiences with WaveLAN customers have shown that WaveLAN technology satisfies more than 90 % of LAN-based operations.
