Lawyers for some of the seven men, who have been placed under formal investigation by a French magistrate for the manslaughter of Princess Diana, have been protesting their clients' innocence.

The lawyers say the authorities are seeking scapegoats because of the high profile of the case. One lawyer has criticised what he described as "showbiz justice".

The seven accused -- six photographers and a driver -- were allowed to go back to their work on Wednesday on condition that they do not leave France.

Five of the seven - Nikola Arsov, of the Sipa agency; Jacques Langevin, of the Sygma agency; Laslo Veres, a freelance, Stephane Darmon, of the Gamma agency; and Serge Arnal of the Stills agency - were freed unconditionally. The two others - Romuald Rat, of Gamma, and Christian Martinez, of the Angeli agency - were released on FFr100,000 (£10,000) bail.

They are challenging the examining magistrate's accusations that they caused the deaths of the Princess, Dodi Fayed and their driver, and that they neglected to help them when their car crashed.

One of the paparazzi, Romuald Rat, has been interviewed on French television. He said that someone else had already called for help when he arrived on the scene. And he said he had tried to help Diana.

Statement by Wikipedia

My role in this was to reinstate Saladin's indefinite block, which Ryan had reduced to one week. [1] I did this because of Saladin's behavior on Wikipedia, and also because his 30 posts to the mailing list [2] as Abu Hamza — in which I believe he named himself after British Islamist Abu Hamza al-Masri, convicted in February 2006 of racial hatred and incitement to murder — suggested to me that his editing style is unlikely to change.

As Saladin1970, he made one edit in March 2006, with the rest of his edits being made between May 13 and 18. There were 27 edits to articles, and 10 to article or user talk other than his own. [3] [4] At Harold Shipman, the British doctor turned serial killer, Saladin joined up with anon IPs to add to the introduction that Shipman was a Jew.

Saladin admitted on the mailing list that he had done this after a discussion on a bulletin board about how Shipman's Jewish background had never been published by the media.

There are no reliable sources that say Shipman was a Jew, and even if he was, it's not relevant enough that it needs to go in the very first sentence, and was evidently being done to make Jews look bad. The only person I'm aware of who has raised Shipman's alleged Jewish background is Abu Hamza al-Masri who, during his 2004 trial for incitement to murder, claimed in court that the British Foreign Office, money supply, and media are controlled by Jews, offering by way of evidence that Harold Shipman's Jewish background had been suppressed by journalists. [5] This is the mindset that Saladin1970 brings to Wikipedia, and it's the reason I believe his naming himself Abu Hamza on the list is not a cooincidence.

In addition, his admission that he targeted the article after taking part in a bulletin-board discussion about it strongly suggests it was an anti-Semitic/Islamist board. It's unlikely this kind of material would be discussed elsewhere.

The edits in question are:

Apart from at Harold Shipman, Saladin's editing involved a 3RR violation using a sockpuppet account, which he later insisted was a work colleague with the same IP address, same browser, and same opinion; a copyvio; and block evasion using at least one anon IP.

If the Arbitration Committee hears appeals from every racist, anti-Semitic, and Islamophobic account that's blocked after 20 edits for trying to insert bigotry into Wikipedia, it's going to be very busy. At some point, the judgment of administrators has to be trusted. If Saladin1970 really wants to return and make decent edits, all he has to do is choose another user name and continue. If his edits are decent, no one will notice that it's him. SlimVirgin (talk) 13:53, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

I should add that, after Ryan reduced the block to one week, I asked him if he would be prepared to mentor Saladin. When Ryan didn't agree to this, and Saladin continued to defend his position on the mailing list, and also continued to evade his block by posting as an anon, I decided to reinstate the indefinite block. SlimVirgin (talk) 14:00, 27 May 2006 (UTC

Again Steelers, it doesn't matter what 'Muslims' do or don't do. The Qur'an tells us what it means to be a Muslim, when I see what is happening in the ME it isn't Islamic. READ THE QURAN FOR YOURSELF AND YOU WILL SEE WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A MUSLIM. Whether people kill people shouting 'allah akbar' or not doesn't mean Islam gives them the right to kill people. Was it because Dr Harold Shipman was a Jew that he killed Hundreds of old aged pensioners? Or was it because he was acting of his own will? Was it because Rosemary and Fred West were Catholics that they killed all those people and buried them in and around their house, or were they acting outside the sanction of their faith? So when you say Muslims have killed muslims you are wrong. As a practicing Muslim has no right within Islam to kill another muslim. I

Sixth doctor cleared over Shipman

Harold Shipman murdered about 250 patients with morphine
A sixth doctor who signed cremation forms for serial killer Harold Shipman in Greater Manchester has been cleared of professional misconduct.
Dr Susan Booth was found not guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Medical Council on Friday.

The doctors had been accused of failing to notice "extraordinary coincidences" between timings of Shipman's home visits and patient deaths in Hyde.

Three doctors were cleared on Thursday and two others last year.

Doctors Jeremy Dirckze, Stephen Farrar and Alistair MacGillivray had been cleared of misconduct charges at a General Medical Council (GMC) Fitness to Practise Panel hearing in Manchester.

The panel has no doubt that the oral account which he gave to Dr Booth would have been totally convincing

Dr Linda Buchanan

Two other GPs, Peter Bennett and Rajesh Patel, were cleared of the same charges last December.

John was a first cousin once-removed. I don't believe that it is well known that during his stay with CBS he, as a writer, accompanied an American tour group in Europe to note the details for a possible CBS special.
He told me afterwards, that during that bus ride, he overheard a couple in front of him speaking. Essentially: He: "Where are we?" She: "Well, it's Tuesday, so it must be Belgium."
That became the title of the piece that later aired and became a movie.
John got no credit since he was merely doing his job.

My parents are Germans from the East. In the US, the tragedy that happened to innocent individuals of German ethnicity is little known. John smote a powerful blow for truth. I bought many copies of "An Eye" and distributed them among friends.
May his soul rest in the peace well earned by the just.

I recently learned of Johns death, he was a great reported and through his work set a standard I hope other can follow. John was attached to C Company 2Bn 34th Armor 1st INF Div for the Gulf War he was attached to us prior to deployment. To say the least he wasn't received with a warm shoulder. The embedded reporter was a concept that none of us had worked with and were scared to death of. We didn't need the world knowing what we did. He stayed with us and watched our every move, until about two weeks prior to our deploying. Once in country he once again was in my back pocket. He was one of his word and would listen to any story someone had to tell. He always wanted a true depiction of how C Company operated. C company was the tank company lead the assault for VII Corp and only sustained one injury, which John described to the T. He was a man of few needs and after time a great joy to work with, to this day I have the rosters of those who fought with C 2/34 and "John Sack reporter" served side by side with those PROUD MEN of COMPANY C

John Sack's an apologist for Solomon Morell, the thug who raped & murdered prisoners. Why should we sympathize with John Sack dying of cancer, when he was an apologist for someone who murders & rapes?

John Sack saw nothing wrong with what Solomon Morel & he was against Solmon Morel being punished for his evil deeds. For this reason, there's not any serious reasons to feel sorry for the death of John Sack.

Posted by Johsackdied on March 7, 2005 9:01 AM
John Sack excused the murderous deeds of Solomon Morel & for this reason, there's no reason to empathize with Mr. Sack dying of cancer. John Sack had the mentality of a defense attorney, who sees nothing wrong with murder & rape.

Posted by reeler on April 29, 2005 8:05 PM
Could John Sack have not died of bone cancer? If John Sack had redeemed himself, said he was wrong about being an apologist for Solomon Morel & said that Solomon Morel must be hanged for his evil deeds of murder & rape, then John Sack wouldn't have died of cancer. God would have spared John Sack.
raping children

John Sack arrogantly was an apologist for the rapes & murders that Solomon Morel did. For this reason, John Sack got bone cancer & John Sack didn't change his evil thinking in justifying something as horrible as raping a 10 year old girl & murdering the victims. If this had been a German man doing it to a Jewess girl, it wouldn't be tolerated by John Sack, but John Sack's an apologist when the perpetrators are Jewish.

There's no excuse to rape 10 year old girls like what Solomon Morel did & the apologists like John Sack, MNUEZ & Diamond are evil. If a Jew murders a Gentile, then they must be brought to justice for it, just as if a Gentile were to murder a Jew.

John Sack was given the opportunity to admit he was wrong, but he was arrogant & for John Sack's arrogant apologism & his refusal to redeem himself, John Sack died of cancer.

Posted by reeler on May 16, 2005 2:08 PM
John Sack was a journalist and the job of a journalist is to tell it like he sees it, with no regard for how others would LIKE to see it. A journalist is supposed to report the TRUTH, not pander to his reader's opinions, no matter how strongly held.

The comments above along the lines that John Sack died of cancer because he did not "atone" for his views are ludicrous. I suppose the reasoning is that if he had atoned, he would have lived forever?

Hurrah for John Sack - a journalist with GUTS.

Posted by partnerfrance on June 19, 2005 2:39 PM
John Sack may have been a good journalist but he was a pretty bad Jew. Anyone who could compare what Solomon Morel did with the actions of the Nazi's is either seriously misinformed or ridiculously anti-Semitic. I consider myself a well adjusted individual but as a Jew if I found myself in charge of a camp with Nazi inmates I would of done just what Morel did and I have only lost distant relatives to the Piece of sh*t Nazis. Shame on John Sack for becoming the mouthpiece of the same old anti-Semitic morons who criticize our people's every action.

Posted by Diamond on July 10, 2005 3:24 AM
WTF diamond, a bad jew? For what? Telling the truth? Its okay for Israeli secret police to travel to a sovereign state then kidnap somebody for trial, but not okay for Poland to use the law to try and punish a mass-murderer. Im not anti-semetic or a nazi, I just believe crime should be punished. So what if he had family members killed by nazis, how does that excuse killing women and children. Try the bastard I say.

Posted by karl on July 14, 2005 2:38 PM
Well said karl. Have the people above actually read the book? Sack dosnt condone the actions of morel, sack was instrumental in exposing him to the world. Thats the reason of the controversy. Jewish leaders didnt approve that sack , a jew, revealed morels murderous exploits.

Posted by Emmerich Anreiter on July 14, 2005 6:15 PM
Obviously I didn't bother to read his book. It doesn't interest me.

Now, I'll be the first person to say that Jews are not inherently saintly people. I've met a whole host of Jews who are pure assholes (generally those employed as lawyers) and other fine and large bunches of semites who are cruel, viscious and mean in all sorts of ways. I've even had the delightful experience of meeting Jewish murderers. I therefore make no claim for Jews being somehow above criticism.

Such being the case, I consider it entirely possible that Mr. Morel is all of the above: a sadist intent on sadism for its own sake. But I have no way of knowing that.

Having read about the great tragedy of Mr. Morel's terrible murders (and here I'm being sarcastic) I remain entirely untouched. In fact, I salute Mr. Morel. And I condemn those who write books on him for kicks along with those folk who, not knowing a damn thing about what it was like to be a Jew in German Europe (let's not play that 'Nazi Europe' game, they were Germans iinm) - these righteous westerners not feeling the fear and torture of Jews in German Europe, yawningly condemning Mr. Morel.

I'm with the Jew whose last act was to inscribe YIDDEN NEKAMA! on the wall of the synagogue in his own blood as his entire village was being murdered. I'm with him. And I salute Mr. Morel for taking that responsibility seriously.

And you know what? If more Jews would have played the game Morel is accused of playing (probably exaggerated by the way) at the end of WWII; had Kovner had been successful in poisoning the German's water supply; had Israeli knesset member Chaim Bograshov's demand for a bombing of Germany been accepted -- maybe today's Jew haters would think twice.

Alas, they don't.

((And please remember what I penned at the top of my comments to the effect that Morel may in fact be a cruel, heartless, sadistic Nazi whose actions were not the normal and beautiful revenge that they likely were. The revenge on your killers I applaud, but were we to find out that he acted similarly as a communist with people who were not his people's executioners, my defense rests.))

The apologists for Solomon MOrel-MNUEZ & Diamond must really end it.

Stalin's Jewish henchmen raped Ukrainian girls, murdered kids & starved & killed millions before the Nazi Holocaust against them. Does it then mean that Ivan the Terrible must be excused for killing Jewish men, women & kids in Treblinka? It's possible that he had relatives killed by Stalin's henchmen.

The death of John Sack from bone cancer must be a warning to MNUEZ & Diamond. If MNUEZ & Diamond continue to be apologists for Solomon Morel & they get cancer & die of it, well they got cancer because they're Solomon MOrel's apologists. John Sack as noted, died of bone cancer because he arrogantly was an apologist for the evil Solomon Morel.

We can combat asocials like MNUEZ.

Lazar Kaganovitch, Lev Mekhlis, Genrikh Yagoda, et. al. is plenty of proof that Jewish henchmen committed Stalin's biggest Holocaust in history, even if you deny it & yes, Jewish henchmen have killed far more than Nazi henchmen.

MNUEZ, keep making arrogant excuses for evil people who rape & murder 10 year olds & you'll end up dying of cancer just like John Sack.

Being an apologist for cowards who rape 10 year olds causes cancer & John Sack is proof of that.

Ahhhh!!!!! You're right! Now I have cancer and I can't get rid of it!!!!

If only I had listened to you BR. If only. But now it's too late.

You know what though. I feel like we're so close so now I'm going to go down to the Western Wall (it'll take me less than 6 minutes) and I'm going to pronounce a special and strong kabbalistic curse upon you that you get the cancer that you gave me. But I'm going to pray that you DIE from it and in lots of painnnn....

I'm kidding of course. Even though your writing is really very ugly and your soul appears to be dirtier than the inside of an abandoned dumpster, you also appear to be just plain old crazy and sick and I wouldn't want to add to your psychosis. and you know why? Becauise i'm a nice jew and I feel bad for the losers of the world such as yourself. that's the truth. so I'll tell you that i was just kidding about the curse. If you DO want it though, let me know and I WILL arrange it.

MNUEZ, you don't even know the religion of this poster.

Don't wish cancer on people who try to help you like this poster or you'll die of cancer.

You must repent MNUEZ. Stop being an apologist for anyone who rapes 10 year old girls like Solomon Morel did & you'll avoid getting cancer.

Be a nice man & don't be asocial like Solomon Morel & you'll die a peaceful death.

However, if you continue to be an arrogant apologist for child molesters like Solomon Morel did, you'll die of the painful death of cancer.

Be nice, not evil. This poster's trying to save you from dying of a painful death of cancer & trying to prevent you from dying like John Sack did. G_d bless you.

John Sack was a good and Honorable man. I first meet him before the Gulf War when he first embedded with my company C co 2-34 Armor 1st Infantry Division.

He talked and interviewed the Men of the company before we left for the war and meet us in country.

A couple of times he slept on the back deck of my tank and I got to know him quit well.

I liked John, he was a good man, and he wrote the truth, and some times the truth is not pretty.

I hope that those of you that wrote such hateful things will some day find peace and knowledge. I truly pity such ignorance and hate.

James:

John Sack was a bad man, a piece of sh*t. Because John Sack excuses rape & murder with his belief against punishing Solomon Morel for raping & murdering 10 year old girls, that makes John Sack a piece of sh*t & we don't have to feel sorry for him.

Posted by br on February 3, 2006 7:26 PM
I dont know his complete and personal history, but as a soldier that interacted with him during Desert Storm, the one thing he did that I thought honorable, is after we were all deployed, he took phone numbers from any and everyone who wanted him to contact their families to say that he saw them and they were doing fine. I know my family sure appreciated his phone call.

Don't any of you who are eulogizing John Sack see anything wrong with John Sack's belief against punishing Solomon MOrel for raping & murdering 10 year old Gentile girls?

Why are you so sympathetic to this evil man John Sack, an apologist who's against seeing Solomon MOrel brought to justice for raping & murdering Gentile girls? What if it was your daughter?

Posted by br on April 5, 2006 7:43 PM
Not to continue discussing the death of John Sack, because alot has been rehashed, but is it best that the discussions about John Sack be ended?

John Sack could've avioded bone cancer if he hadn't been an apologist for rapist & murderer Solomon Morel.

Many have had bad things happen, but they haven't gone out, raped women & murdered.

With regard to WW2, has any1 read the Book Stalin's War of Extermination? Was Hitler defending territory when he launched Operation Barbarossa? Did Stalin want to conquer to spread Communism? Hitler didn't trust Stalin.

@least some of those who were executed by the Nazis were Stalin's henchmen. The Commissar Order resulted in Stalin's henchmen being executed by the Nazis. Was it a bad thing? Yes, the Nazis did many bad things. OUt of millions killed during WW2, the Commissar Order is an eg. of where the Nazis SOMETIMES killed bad people, because Stalin's Commissars were bad people.

Message of Jorge Klainman, survivor of the Holocausto
Most excellent Ambassadors.

Very appreciated Members of the National Government, Provincial Governments and the City of Buenos Aires.
Directors of Argentine institutions and the Jewish community.
Dear friends of the Museum of the Holocausto. Companions of the distant calvario. Respectable public.

Be all very welcome you. I am Jorge surviving unique Klainman of a traditionalistic family, judeo-Pole, composed by
six people: my parents, two sisters, a brother and I.
To my 13 years, we were brutally separated. To them they sent them to the field of Belzec extermination in Poland, where all died in the gas chambers.
I managed to enter a concentration camp to work, only and exclusively thanks to one of the miracles on which I write in my
autobiography. Because I imagine that you know that to 1.500.000 girls and Jewish boys, were not sent to work, but directly to the gas chambers.
Auschwitz well

During four interminable years I passed by six concentration camps of most terrible than it had in the damn Nazi empire.
Daily it coexisted with the death, to inclusively removed me alive from a deep well buried underneath 99 corpses.
Today I have a beautiful family: wife, 4 children, 3 grandsons, who are for me an inexhaustible source of happiness and pride.
I dedicate all my life to a single aim, to tell to the world the truth of which the Nazis did to him to my town and other towns by subjugated them.

Today we remembered sexagésimoprimer anniversary of the liberation of the field of Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination. There the Nazis obtained something absolutely incredible and inconceivable, in hardly two years they assassinated and
they burned to 2.500.000 innocent people, who were made up of 1.500.000 Jews, the immense majority women and boys, 700,000 gypsys, 100,000 witnesses of Polish, Russian Jehovah and the rest and of others
occupied nations. Today we remembered this fact anywhere in the world and this
it is very important; not only it makes possible that sagrada memory of greater crime in history of humanity, is commemorated, but that motivates to much democratic people to that they fight with all his forces, against the fundamentalist terrorists
assassins and the Nazis whom they at all costs look for to bring to him to the world free another great catastrophe. We cannot allow it. We must unite to us, Jewish, catholic.... and all the people of good will, to work together against the mega Nazi and terrorist assassins, and to create a righter world and
tolerant.
From this place I make a dramatic call to all the educational ones and responsible for the culture and education, ábrannos the doors of the schools and universities, visit our Museum of the Holocausto in Buenos Aires, so that we pruned to tell the truth to our young people, they have the right to know it.
Each testimony of a survivor has an enormous importance; he counts his own experiences and fights to which they deny the reality of the Shoá, the Holocausto.
I am going to them to recite a poem which I composed like tribute to all those that they were assassinated in the Nazi fields of extermination and says the following thing:
Auschwitz-Auschwitz, field of death, to leave there with life, were pure luck. The chimneys of your crematorios it left black smoke, continuously. He was the unique thing that was, of the thousands of innocents whom they assassinated and they burned.
There daily and if the smoke could, to speak and to count, the wind would be stopped and the stars in the firmament would be extinguished - there is one long row of people bent, shutdown on the snow, congealed; they wait for the selection that will mark its destiny, handled with the whip of a Nazi official with assassin face.

Right-left - right-left. And the left increases, enormously, because in the gas chambers the tins of the Zyklon-B wait for them, patiently.
But finally the few survivors rise of between ashes;
it is that to the black smoke, the breezes took to it. To only it reduces me to salute to all, convinced that these important events, they help to spread the truth, and to fight against all type of discrimination, xenophobia, racism and anti-semitism.

Thank you very much

A Spanish story of Holocaust survival

ARTS AND CULTURE
By Larry Luxner

BUENOS AIRES, Dec. 12 (JTA) -- On his 68th birthday, Jorge Klainman decided he could remain silent no more about his Holocaust horrors.

The Polish-born, retired businessman sat at his electric typewriter, he said, ``and suddenly the curtains of my memory began to part, revealing events that happened 50 or 60 years ago. After that my life changed completely. I felt liberated."

The result was ``El Septimo Milagro," a harrowing Spanish-language tale of life and death in a series of Nazi concentration camps that has captivated readers from Buenos Aires to Barcelona.

Translated into English as ``The Seventh Miracle" and into Hebrew as ``Nes Ha-Shev'i," Klainman's first-person account differs from most other Holocaust memoirs in its extraordinary attention to detail. It ranges from the 1939 roundup of Jews from his Polish hometown of Kielce to Klainman's frightful March 1944 encounter with psychopathic concentration camp commandant Amon Goeth, the SS officer portrayed by Ralph Fiennes in Steven Spielberg's movie ``Schindler's List."

Goeth marked Klainman, then 15, for execution by firing squad.

``My mind refused to comprehend the reality of what was happening," Klainman wrote. ``The end had come. They were going to shoot me and burn me. I thought of my loved ones, and that soon I would be joining them. I reached a state of mind where I just wanted, with all my being, to get it over with."

But Klainman's Ukrainian executioners somehow missed their target, and later that night fellow Jewish prisoners risked their lives to bring his bleeding body to the camp infirmary. A kindly doctor there gradually nursed the teenager back to health.

Fate intervened five more times before he was liberated by American soldiers in 1945, and Klainman was saved from certain death.

In 1947 -- with the help of international Jewish organizations -- Klainman set sail from Italy to Rio de Janeiro, caught a plane to Asuncion, Paraguay, and smuggled himself across the heavily guarded border into Argentina, where he eventually married and raised a family.

``Six actual miracles occurred and saved my life," according to Klainman, 78. ``The seventh was my being able to write the story."

And now, with anti-Semitism again rising throughout his adopted country, Klainman told JTA he feels compelled to share that story with Argentines who may not have yet gotten the message.

``Ten years from now there won't be any Holocaust survivors left to transmit the truth to young people," he said in an interview at his Buenos Aires apartment. ``They'll begin forgetting the Jewish Holocaust just as they've forgotten the Armenian Holocaust. So it's important that everybody knows what happened. That way they'll be able to understand the terrible struggle of the Israeli people against the fundamentalist Islamic savages who want to throw us into the sea."

Klainman, a jewelry retailer by profession, lived in Tel Aviv from 1971 to 1990 and again from 1999 to 2004. He is fluent in Polish, Russian, German, Yiddish, Hebrew, Spanish and Italian, and was recently appointed official representative of the Holocaust Museum in Buenos Aires.

``I've dedicated the rest of my life to explaining the Shoah to students from all over the country," he said. ``Since I've moved back from Israel, thousands of students have heard my testimony."

Klainman says he has ``lots of work to do" in explaining the reasons behind the Holocaust to fellow Argentines, many of whom grew up with anti-Semitic attitudes encouraged by the Roman Catholic Church and the thousands of Nazi war criminals who were welcomed by Argentina's military dictatorship after World War II.

``I've visited many colleges and universities throughout Argentina, giving speeches for high-school kids," Klainman said. ``I even spoke at a Catholic seminary, and afterwards the kids cursed the Vatican for ignoring the Jews.

``Usually when I finish speaking after an hour, for three or four minutes they sit there in silence. Then they surround me, hundreds of kids, hugging me, crying, asking for my autograph. Once I took a taxi in Corrientes and the driver recognized me. He took my hand and kissed it, and told me, 'God bless you, may you never die.'"

He said the reaction of Argentina's Christians to his book is much stronger than the Jews because ``the Jews already know this story."

Klainman said he was inspired to write ``El Septimo Milagro" after his son Miguel began asking him troubling questions about his past.

``For 50 years I guarded my silence like a hermit, but then I got tired of these delinquents denying the Holocaust," he said. ``I realized that by keeping silent, I was becoming an accomplice, collaborating with them."

It took Klainman four months to write the book. His original draft version ran 107 pages; only 25 copies of that version were printed.

`When I read what I had written, I realized nobody would believe it was true," he said. ``So we [Klainman and his wife, Teresa] decided to travel to Poland to look for details. It was very traumatic, that first time back in Poland, more so for Teresa than for me."

``Jorge didn't talk about it. I knew very little," said Teresa Klainman, an Argentina native who had no idea what a concentration camp was until she met her husband. ``I knew he was a survivor, that he had no family and that he was in camps, but it was a taboo subject. Whenever I asked, he would tell me a few things, but he wouldn't want to go into details, and I didn't want to upset him, so I learned not to ask."

The Klainmans would return to Poland twice more, most recently as part of a program to bring Jewish children to Poland to teach them firsthand about the horrors of the Holocaust.

In October, Jorge and Teresa Klainman came to the United States for a two-week visit that included lectures at secondary schools, colleges and Jewish community centers throughout New Jersey. The trip was organized by Kal Wagenheim, the Millburn, N.J., freelance journalist and playwright who had translated Klainman's book from Spanish to English.

Klainman proudly showed off a thick folder full of letters from a seventh-grade civics class in Millburn.

``Thank you for the presentation. I found it interesting that you seemed to keep barely missing death -- especially the time you got shot in the leg near the pit," wrote one student. ``Maybe it was fate that allowed you to live to tell your tale, or maybe it was just luck. Either way I am grateful that you came all the way from Buenos Aires to present us with your story.''

There have been many books written by Holocaust survivors, but The Seventh Miracle by Jorge I. Klainman, translated by Kal Wagenheim, is one of the best I have ever read ($16.99, plus $3.49, xlibris, available from Mr. Wagenheim, 52 Maple Avenue, Maplewood, NJ 07040 or through www.xlibris.com/bookstore.) In the winter of 1943, a 15-year-old Jewish boy stands naked at the edge of a deep ditch in a concentration camp. Ukrainian guards with machine guns wait for the command to kill him and others. More than a half-century later, Klainman has told the story of his miraculous survival and it is a tribute to the resiliency of the human spirit. Between the day when Klainman, then 19, stood at a railroad station in Buenos Aires to begin a new life and the age of 68, he had built a wall around the memories of those years of horror. As he relates, "six miracles occurred and saved my life. The seventh was my being able to write the story after so much time." This is, however, an unflinching story of the horror visited upon the author and six million Jews of his era. You will wonder how such evil could have occurred and then you will think of today’s headlines from Israel where teenagers, like Klainman was, are murdered for the crime of being Jewish. For an extraordinary experience, you should read this memoir.
