Imad Mughniyeh, according to Israeli sources, was with a shadowy Shia
group known as Islamic Jihad. The Mossad said it was Imad who
orchestrated a 1983 bombing that killed 241 US Marines in Beirut. Again,
Mossad sources denied they were behind the kidnapping and killing of the
CIA station chief in Beirut, William Buckley, and the1985 hijacking to
Beirut of a TWA airliner in which a US Navy diver was killed.
Western intelligence agencies said Imad Mughniyeh was killed to add
cache to the 1983 Marine barracks bombing investigation.
Mughniyeh had outlived his usefulness, and no doubt wanted money from
his Israeli Masters.
