What Is This 'Teen Challenge'?
Teen Challenge Program is a carefully designed treatment
for rehabilitation of addicts. It was started in the 60s in New York as
a response to an overwhelming epidemic of drug abuse in the United
States at that time. Christian psychologists and psychiatrists from the
USA designed this program based on observations from the field and made
adjustments based on their own practical experience.
About 60 countries in the world have taken on this
program and today it is implemented in over 300 rehabilitation centers.

The Mysterious Founder
Reverend David Wilkerson served as pastor in small churches in
Scottdale and Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, until he saw a photograph in
Life Magazine in 1958 of seven New York City teenagers charged with
murder. He later wrote that, as he felt the Holy Ghost move him with
compassion, he was drawn to go to New York in February 1958. It was
then that he began his street ministry to underprivileged inner-city
youth.

Residential Program
Many of our centers offer a one-year
residential program for adolescents and adults designed to help men
and women learn how to live drug-free lives. During their 1-year stay,
they do not hold down outside jobs, as all of their attention is
focused on the program.
Residents follow strict rules and discipline. While most of our
centers are for adults, some do offer residential programs for
teenagers.

Thanks, But No Thanks
No one is sure what is going out at these
remote outposts, but I doubt many of us want to go knocking on their
door.
