Canada Blames Hamas And Deserts 60 Canadians

The Liberals criticized the Conservatives for being too slow to react to the plight of 59 Canadians now trapped in Gaza and who want help to leave.

Candian liberal Peter Kent said the Canadians in Gaza would only be moved to safety if the rocket attacks" stop permanently."Asked whether that could trap them for days or months, Kent replied, "It is a war. It is a very fluid combat situation and these folks are caught in the middle of it. We've been given assurance they will be moved only when it is safe for them to move."  5

Israel later said Hamas fired on its forces from the school compound.

"Again, Hamas bears the burden of responsibility. This history of Hamas is to use civilian infrastructure and civilian populations as shields for their terrorist activities,"said Kent, who rejected any suggestion Israel's response to Hamas's rocket attacks has been disproportionate. 7

The Canadians Are Muslims

While the Liberals accused the Conservative government of not acting quickly enough to get Canadians out, opposition parties essentially agreed little could be done unless Hamas makes a commitment to stop shooting rockets at Israel.

More than 4,000 people packed into a Beth Tzedek Synagogue synagogue in midtown Toronto last night to voice their support for Israel. Several politicians added their voices to the cause, including Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs, and Liberal MP Joe Volpe.
