University allows ADL to pick cheerleaders

 

 

A Jewish cheerleader ( Jackie Steele ) gets demoted from football cheerleader to basketball cheerleader and runs to the ADL and cries Anti Semitism. The cheerleading coach  gets blamed and the school terminates her after 13 yrs of service.

 

 

 

 

Hillel is now using the ADL to push for other girls

" This is degrading to women and it's a form of athletic discrimination."

 

 

 

 

 

 

But now it's on to Jackie Steele's story

Our heroine's first year she was a cheerleader for the football team

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sophomore year she was transferred to the men's basket ball team

 

 

Evidently cheering the black team wasn't very glamorous

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Junior year she made cheerleader at the women's basketball team
Not very glamorous
 

 

 

 

 

 

But what's the truth about Jackie

 

   

Jackie's first year

In her first year at the University of Georgia she was shaking her Pom Poms infront of 80,000 fans. She never had a single complaint !
   

 

   

Jackie's second year

Jackie gets demoted to the men's basketball - subsequently her and her ' Poppa ' file a complaint accusing Coach Braswell of manipulating the tryout scores with a religious bias.

The coach is told to avoid Jackie.

 
   

 

   

Jackie's third year

Jackie makes cheerleader for the women’s basketball and isn't happy.

Coach Braswell had nothing to do with it because she was forbidden to score Jacki by the school legal counsel

 

Poppa is very unhappy

 

Upon learning of this result, Steele and her parents began complaining that Coach Braswell should have participated in the scoring and that Steele's score was unfairly lowered because of the coach's abstention.

   

 

 

 

Middle of third year

Jackie goes to Hillel and the ADL who then file a complaint with the UGA legal affairs department, accusing the coach of religious discrimination. Jackie said the coach made the squad say a prayer before a game.

The school caves in putting Jackie on the football cheerleading squad.
   
 
   

 

   

Jackie's fourth year

As a result of the complaint, the athletic department promoted Steele to the football squad for this season without having to go through tryouts.

Jackie sends the coach Emails telling her what she finds acceptable.

" Jackie informing me of which rules and regulations she will abide "

Jackie's demands

  • I am not attending 70% of summer practice
  • I am going to Vegas will not attend pre-game practice
  • I will not substitute for sick girls at any basketball games
  • I will pick my own stunt partners

Parents talk to cheerleading squad

 "Jackie and her parents have told many other students and families things about what I am being forced to do for her and making disparaging remarks about me personally and professionally. "

Braswell seeks guidance

As the season starts , Coach Braswell who is on probation , goes to the athletic dept five separate times and asks what to tell her squad. The dept who are afraid for their jobs refuse to advise her.

Braswell says this to the  squad “Because the allegations were made, the UGA Athletic Department has mandated that Jaclyn Steele be placed without having to try out on this squad. Jaclyn Steele is a member of this team and is to be treated like any other member and I (Braswell) will not tolerate any negative action, discussion or comments regarding Jackie.” Full statement
 

Two weeks later Frank Crumley  sends Marylou a letter of termination

Braswell files a civil rights lawsuit

Ed Tolley, filed the motion to dismiss Braswell’s Federal Civil Rights lawsuit and contends Braswell can not prove the university infringed on her constitutional rights.

 

 

Braswell gets ' Hate mail'

The coach gets a barrage of hate mail -

Shelly Korpieski, who graduated from UGA in 2002, will start her new job April 5. She replaces interim coach Kim Mayer.

Korpieski declined comment on questions regarding her religion.

Korpieski, a native of Marietta, has worked for Wilkins Media Co. since her graduation, most recently as a media supervisor. She's been a Falcons cheerleader for three years.
