Internet banking holds the promise of convenience, cost reduction, increased business AND security. The road is a long one however and for some reason it seems like folks are getting out of the car before its in the driveway. To better understand where it stands, we need to look at yesterday, today and tomorrow.

Yesterday (or more accurately "in the early 1990’s"), the Internet was no place to do business. The Internet was a place full of college students and scientists and was rumored to have "no security". The rumor is true and fortunately, though mysteriously, the public seemed to understand that. The public wasn’t going to transact business on the Internet until it was "secure" enough to do so. But few really understood the Internet enough to secure it – wow, what a great opportunity for solutions providers and snake-oil salesmen alike!
