------------------------------------------------- MicroDAC 5 Software/Firmware Update Instructions ------------------------------------------------- RELEASE 1.2.2, July 20, 2007 1. As part of this procedure your MicroDAC unit will be reset to its factory default settings. If you wish to save the settings that are currently programmed into the unit, do so before beginning this update. 2. If your MicroDAC unit is connected to your computer, make sure it is turned OFF before beginning the udpate. 3. Download the file MD5Setup_1_2_2.exe from the DAC website to your desktop or another convenient location. Double-click the file to run it - the update will begin automatically. (If you are updating from a CD, insert the CD into your drive and the update will begin automatically.) 4. In the first Installshield Wizard screen, click "Next" to begin installation (after making sure that your MicroDAC unit is turned off). After the initial software update completes, click "Finish". 5. Connect your MicroDAC unit to your computer using the USB cable, and turn the unit on. This will trigger the update of the necessary drivers. If you are running Windows 2000, the driver update should complete auto- matically with no intervention from you. If you are running Windows XP, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" will launch to update the necessary drivers, and you will need to follow these steps: a. When prompted to connect to Windows Update to search for software, select "No, not this time" and click "Next". b. When prompted to insert a CD, you DO NOT need to do so. Instead, just choose "Install the software automatically" and click "Next". c. You may be presented with a Windows Logo testing warning. Click "Continue Anyway". d. When the completion window is presented, click "Finish". e. Repeat steps a-d to install the second required driver. 6. Open the MicroDAC 5 configuration software. It should connect to your MicroDAC V unit automatically. You will be prompted for a firmware update; click "Yes" to update the firmware. DO NOT TURN OFF OR DISCONNECT THE MICRODAC UNIT UNTIL THE FIRMWARE UPDATE COMPLETES!!! 7. Once the firmware update completes, cycle power on the MicroDAC unit. Then go to the File menu in the MicroDAC 5 software and choose Connect. If prompted, choose to load the hardware configuration into the software. 8. Please read the description of the contents of this update in the file SwRevisionHistory.txt, found in the installation directory. Congratulations! You have finished the MicroDAC 5 update!
