"If we are to avoid that catastrophe (nuclear devastation), a system of world order - preferably a system of world government - is mandatory. The proud nations someday will see the light and, for the common good and their own survival, yield up their precious sovereignty, just as America's thirteen colonies did two centuries ago.
"When we finally come to our senses and establish a world executive and parliament of nations, thanks to the Nuremberg precedent we will already have in place the fundamentals for the third branch of government, the judiciary." Walter Cronkite from his book A Reporter's Life.
Walter Cronkite is a man generally viewed as having made it to the top of the heap. His book, A Reporter's Life, published in 1996 by Alfred A. Knopf and Random House, is an interesting description of his life and times. From his birth, the Great Depression, World War Two and on to the present day, one could say he has described the affairs of men and of state with uncommon accuracy as to the way things have looked to our culture and our nation. He has socialized with the highest ranking people of our times and he has influenced societies with his commentary and observations. For those of us who have heard him speak, his deep resonating voice is pleasant to listen to even if the man had nothing to say.
As I read his documentary on the Twentieth Century and empathized with his humorous and candid look at the lives of people, not the least of which is himself, I could not help but think the author of this book looks at life much as most Americans do. Americans look at the rocks and trees, but too often miss the mountains for the glasses placed astride their noses are not that far-sighted or all-encompassing. Mr. Cronkite did well with that which he was setting out to do in that he graphically described the circumstances of the life and times of men. His book was not intended to see the mountains, or more precisely, the big picture. Nonetheless, on an occasion or two, the mountains could be seen through the trees.
Mr. Cronkite described the intended humorous events in his life which could get a man arrested in any age. He tells of the time his boss, the city editor, had him instructed on how to cheat the phone company out of its nickel when he would go to the pay phone on business. On another occasion he was used by the city bosses to vote using another man's name, thereby, participating in a fraudulent election. He tells how he would falsify a ball game to make the listener believe they were hearing the actual playing of the game while, in actuality, it was made up as best as could be from a simple report of the game which was given him. I could not help but feel the great degraded reality of human nature to which Mr. Cronkite, himself, either wittingly or unwittingly, played his part. It is understandable how these same qualities may very well contribute to the forces that have made him a player in the theater of the new world.
This autobiography only too well revealed a whole host of present realities without directly explaining them, but they began to appear in striking relief as this writer conjectured concerning our current world situation. While the Second World War takes a major portion of his life's experiences, it seems he did not grasp or did not choose to reveal the depth of its purpose. One Cronkite observation was that it is pretty well established that the U.S. knew that the Japanese fleet was steaming toward Hawaii on that fateful December 7th. He seems convinced, along with many modern observers, that that must have been the case. One of his conclusions of the event seems highly unlikely. His view is that the U.S. did nothing about the Japanese attack since the U.S. did not want the Japanese to know we had broken their code. How can any rational person think that a nation would sacrifice its fleet over a code? Thousands of men died over a code? This could not possibly be the reason for the silence of those who knew of the event. Codes are broken just for the purpose of saving one's fleet. Besides that, codes are regularly changed so a broken code to save a fleet is a good trade, even if the code has to be figured out again.
The real probable cause is too ghoulish to consider--perhaps even too ghoulish for Cronkite. The U.S. population was not interested in a war. People were sick of wars since the war to end all wars had been fought in the First World War. Franklin Roosevelt promised before his election that he would not take America into another foreign war. The only way for the president to bring public opinion around to wanting a war was to arrange for, or at least permit an attacked, which would cause us to sustain major losses. When one begins to see the corrupt nature of our system of government, and when one sees the true purposes of war that have been promulgated by conspirators in high places, this reasoning is far more plausible. If, as current wisdom indicates, we knew of the Japanese threat, this latter conclusion seems almost a given.
Andrei Vishinsky, Molotov's deputy and Stalin's chief prosecutor, was once a newspaperman, reported Cronkite. Vishinsky stated, "I found out that it takes just two things to be a good newspaperman: a strong pair of legs and a very weak mind." I would not suggest that Mr. Cronkite has a weak mind. To say that, however, infers that Mr. Cronkite knows more than he is saying.
To develop this thought leads us to our leading quotation in this editorial. As with most of the world, there is a looking forward to a world system of government. This is largely in place, but not so readily announced. Walter Cronkite cannot but suggest his true sentiments which are the sentiments of a large portion of society. The problem is that this reasoning is flawed to the maximum. If atom bombs were built by the political sort of reasoning these days, there would never have been an atom bomb. They would have only been able to develop mud pies. I would suggest that this public reasoning is only for the very weak-minded or cattle, so to speak. The true political motivations are not spoken. The true atom bomb of political reasoning is not revealed to the general public or that same public would in a moment wash the vermin from their political door.
Cronkite writes, "I thought a lot about the fervent anti-Communists' seldom questioned slogan: 'Better Dead than Red.' That sort of deeply patriotic sentiment, it seems to me, might have had some rationale in the days when wars had winners and losers. But does it stand up in the nuclear age, when a massive exchange of bombs would cause such great losses, even, perhaps, the destruction of life on earth as we know it? It does not seem to me unpatriotic to offer the possibility that it might be better to be Red than dead, under those nuclear circumstances."
This shocking suggestion is saying it is better to be a live slave than a dead freeman. I would ask, who says it is better? I hate to keep wearing this out, but this idea is the very foundation of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion so many debunk these days. They read:
We shall implant such an abhorrence of them (the errors of their government) that the peoples will prefer tranquility in a state of serfdom to those rights of vaunted freedom which have tortured humanity and exhausted the very sources of human existence, sources which have been exploited by a mob of rascally adventurers who know not what they do. .... CHANGES OF FORMS OF GOVERNMENT TO WHICH WE INSTIGATED THE NATIONS WHEN WE WERE UNDERMINING THEIR STATE STRUCTURES, WILL HAVE SO WEARIED THE PEOPLES BY THAT TIME THAT THEY WILL PREFER TO SUFFER ANYTHING UNDER US RATHER THAN RUN THE RISK OF ENDURING AGAIN ALL THE AGITATIONS AND MISERIES THEY HAVE GONE THROUGH.
The mountains, in this case so missed by this historical account, are the motivations that have driven the nations to war and brought such distress upon all that we would rather have slavery without our guns than go through that again. Surely, Walter Cronkite is one who is convinced it is better to be a slave than a freeman if we can just get a little rest or, at least, he is an evangelist for this new and terrible order which will rule by force and make all men cattle, albeit peaceable ones.
But let us consider the conclusion of this matter. How is it that the men who have ruled this world in all of this destruction can so benignly rule it from now on? If we have been manipulated by criminals in all of our wars and tribulations, how are these criminals now going to suddenly be peaceable, honest men? I dare say they will not. And how is it that men of passion and force who have lived on this earth for six thousand years suddenly have their hearts change because there is now a world government? Since when do governments change hearts? Since hearts are not changed by the ballot box, what hell is this world looking forward to when these corrupt men finally grasp all the power to be grasped? I will tell you. No! I will let Scripture tell you, "And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed." Rev 13:15.
I believe Mr. Cronkite would do well to heed his own counsel. "The nation whose population depends on the explosively compressed headline service of television news can expect to be exploited by the demagogues and dictators who prey upon the semi-informed." May I say that even now demagogues and dictators rule our society through their executive orders and perverted constitutional reasoning. They rule because citizens have listened to those who only report the surface event rather than give us a picture of the mountains--the grand scheme of things.
Finally, A Reporter's Life sends a message that seems prophetic. "There is going to be a social and political and economic evolution, which will explode with such suddenness as to have the character of revolution. The revolutionary forces are already at work today, and they have humankind's dreams on their side. We don't want to be on the other side." My thoughts are that humankind's dreams will be nightmares when finally realized. This newspaperman clearly reveals the scope and theme of the media and where its sponsors are taking this world. It is too plain and obvious if one is not weak-minded concerning the expected end. I must fear to be on the side of these revolutionary forces for their evil and sinister purposes are well stated by their front-line evangelists.
What could be wrong with a new order of things? Why should we be resistant to a new political device? Have we not seen the tortures of past policies? Have not political systems changed through the centuries? Have not we been taught that "new" is better? These are not ridiculous questions. Change is not wrong and neither is a one-world government. A single government is not a danger. This is why so many noteworthy persons seem to support it. What is not realized by most simple folks is that the rhetoric covers a multitude of distortions.
As it is stated, "It is the sacred principles enshrined in the United Nations charter to which the American people will henceforth pledge their allegiance." (President Bush addressing the General Assembly of the U.N., February 1,1992). To what government are Americans now to pledge their allegiance? To what god or "sacred" thing are we to give our worship? While the answers are couched in all kinds of wonderful and poetic speech, spun cleverly by the authors of those speeches, the realities are obvious for those who will simply look and see. President Bush would have us convert our allegiances. But what is the foundation of this new allegiance?
What is the theme of our new government? What is it that we must ascribe to? What is REALLY happening? The answer unfolds. "We are beginning to see practical support. And this is a very significant sign of the movement towards a new era, a new age.... We see both in our country and elsewhere... ghosts of the old thinking.... When we rid ourselves of their presence, we will be better able to move toward a new world order...relying on the relevant mechanisms of the United Nations." (Soviet President Gorbachev at the Middle East peace talks in Madrid, 1991). And what are these ghosts of our old thinking that we will rid ourselves of?
If one will simply see what unconverted men can create, one can see that all of the talk of a better society is in the eye of the beholder. The "better society" of Satan will look far different than the better society of God. As they have written, "To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men their individualism, loyalty to family tradition, national patriotism, and religious dogmas....We have swallowed all manner of poisonous certainties fed us by our parents, our Sunday and day school teachers, our politicians, our priests....The reinterpretation and eventual eradication of the concept of right and wrong which has been the basis of child training, the substitution of intelligent and rational thinking for faith in the certainties of old people, these are the belated objectives...for charting the changes in human behavior." (Brock Chislholm, 1959 Humanist of the Year and former head of the World Health Organization, in the February 1946 issue of Psychiatry).
When one considers what this new world order will cost, it may do well to reconsider. It means, according to Chislholm, that we must relinquish our religious faith and our notion of right and wrong. In other words, the New Order means a spiritual, ethical and moral lobotomy. We are to have our minds replaced with the mind of our captors. Now, Walter Cronkite, is that worth living for? Is it better to live with our minds gone and our spiritual capacities ruined or to die? Is it not better to have the world ended than to yield to this sort of devilish tyranny?
They continue, "I am convinced that the battle for humankind's future must be waged and won in the public school classroom by teachers who correctly view their role as the proselytizers of a new faith.... The classroom must and will become an arena of conflict between the old and the new; the rotting corpse of Christianity, together with all its adjacent evils and misery, and the new faith of Humanism...." (The Official Journal of the American Humanist Association, 1983).
Can we not see the real purposes behind the new system? Our nation was subjected to nuclear weapons so that we would fear them to such a degree that we would give our souls away in order to escape them. Why is it that men are so willing to see their young children reshaped by their perverted educational system in taking from them the God-given essence of His presence?
The truth of the hour is that the evangelism of this new order is in full swing in our public education system, our theatrical entertainments, television and the political. Captivity has already occurred. The only thing remaining is the public announcement of that captivity.
The militias of the country are not fearful that their guns are being taken away. The anti-government protesters are not afraid that their taxes are too high. No, they fear that their souls are being snatched from them. It may appear in the form of taxes and guns, but it is far more deeply rooted than that. God is being systematically ripped from our souls by unscrupulous preachers who would sell their mother for a buck, and the politicians and newsmen who seem so weak-minded they do not discern the effects of their causes.
While Mr. Cronkite may believe that yielding up our precious sovereignty simply means giving up our Constitution, it is well for us to see that this new order of things has something far more sinister in mind. It is not simply our national sovereignty we are being asked to relinquish, it is the sovereignty of our souls. For me, that will simply not occur. This editor will not relinquish that most cherished God-given possession. May I go on record that there is not an army on earth strong enough or with guns enough to pull that off, for God has promised to be the strength of those who yield to His life and power.
Well, there is one thing which should not be forgotten. In his book Walter Cronkite also said, "As long as there are aggressors, there will be resisters." While this principle may have been applied to Hitler, the principle remains true for this new aggressive, invasive disease we call public education and social reform. And by God this will be resisted and by God this will be overthrown.
