What / Why / Who?
"Why have these meetings?"
Because for over four years Nettwerked has been the web-site for knowledge, particularly in the area of
telecommunications. Nettwerked has always been about progression and about community. Nettwerked opened
doors for this community by releasing K-1ine 'zine, and then the discussion board. Nettwerked will open
even more doors with official meetings once a month, at the end of the month. Much like 2600, we are about
bringing together people in the "H/P" scene. 2600 meetings in Edmonton used to be hosted by Hack Canada,
and they were awesome. Many friends were made, and good times were had. I figure trying to organize something
new different for the fresh new year may be good for everyone. If you recognize people from the old Edmonton 2600 meetings,
don't be at all surprised.
"What is allowed / not allowed?"
You're allowed to bring an open mind, a willingness to learn, and knowledge. We want folks who will behave, show
some maturity, and basically leave all elitism and insecurities at home. We don't allow illegal activity. We
may focus on the scene, but we aren't about committing crime. You want to break the law, you do it some place
else. Our rules will not conflict with the rules of Boston Pizza. If you break any of these rules, you will be
asked to not attend our meetings anymore. We're an open community, but we will not allow assholes to ruin it for everybody.
I'm confident we will not have a problem. As said earlier, many of the same people attending the Nettwerked Meetings
once attended our 2600 meetings and the "problems" with those were kept to a bare minimum.
"How many people are present at your meetings?"
At this time, you can expect a minimum of 5 people and a maximum of 15-35. We anticipate a good number of folks.
So far we figure we will have about 15-35 people showing up. If you find it too crowded, just sit at a table nearest
us and let us know you are here for the Nettwerked meeting. We'll be sure and come by and do some socializing.
"What type of people are present at your meetings?"
Hackers, Phreakers, and people involved in this scene. We don't expect you to be anyone important in the hacker scene,
but we do expect you to have the willingness to learn, and socialize with our crowd. Everyone at the meetings is different.
We understand that, and we encourage individuality. We're a subculture like punk, skaters, ravers, goths, geeks, etc. You'll
probably meet other people who are also involved in the punk, skater, goth, geek subculture - embrace your brothers and
sisters.
"I'm worried that cops may show up at our meets and harrass me and my friends!"
Let them show up. If law enforcement people want to show up and have fun, we certainly won't exclude them. Just as long as
they know the same rules apply to them. If they start hassling us, they will be politely asked to leave. So if you're worried, just make sure you don't bring anything or do anything that would give these folks a reason to hassle. In the past, we had people showing up to our meetings who we believe were under cover cops or the media. We smelled them a mile a way back then, and won't have a problem again this time. Which brings me to my next point; law enforcement / media, please we have nothing to hide and neither should you. If you're honest about who you are and what your intentions are, your stay will be a lot smoother.
"I want to bring food / drinks to the meeting. Can I?"
No, absolutely not. Food at Boston Pizza is relatively inexpensive. Make sure to bring enough money to pay for a meal.
People not paying will result in Boston Pizza not allowing us to hold meetings there anymore. Bringing food is worse
than not paying for a meal; it's tasteless and rude. Boston Pizza still operates as a regular business despite us
having Nettwerked meetings there once a month. No exceptions. If you break our rules and those of Boston Pizza you will not be allowed to attend our meetings in the future.
"I want to be sure the meetings are happening, and that my friends are showing up. How do I reach you all?"
The Nettwerked Discussion Board: http://board.nettwerked.net. If you have any questions and/or comments, please direct all of your meeting inquiries to (theclone@hackcanada.com).
"Do you have pictures / video of your past meetings available online?"
Yes! They are linked to from the index of the Nettwerked Meetings page.
The individual pictures / video are in their separate section. Go there and check it out for yourself.
