Which Payne |
During the campaign,
Obama
told a story about his "uncle," Charles Payne's, WW II experiences
to burnish his all-American upbringing. But Obama made a gaffe when he
said his great uncle liberated Auschwitz. Well, Russian troops liberated Auschwitz, so the story changed that Payne was part of the
force that liberated Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration
camp, in April 1945. Well, is this story a gaffe, or a lie, on top of a lie, on top of a lie.
Records show that a Payne, C. T.
served as a private with Company K,
355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division, during World War II.
According to records, the C.T. Payne listed on the roster of the 89th Infantry Division,
may NOT
be a relative of Obama.
Genealogy records
show that
Obama's grandmother Madelyn only had one
brother, Charles W., and a sister Arlene. Charles W. was born to Rolla
Charles Payne and Leona McCurry (nee) in 1924.
Not only that, It seems that "Uncle Charles" was in the Navy. Payne,
Charles W.,
enlisted in the US Navy on November 10, 1942, at Board #4,
Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas. His US Navy serial number was
6293977.
There was a Charles T. Payne in the family. He was Obama's great
great grandfather. He joined the military just after Pearl Harbor amid
the fear and confusion on a "60 and over" enlistment that was meant to
be defense at home. However, he also joined the US Navy. Payne, Charles
T.,
enlisted on December 13, 1942, also at Board #4, Kansas City,
Wyandotte County, Kansas. His US Navy serial number was 3427439.
Charles T. Payne was born in 1861. He would have been 81 years
old, and totally unacceptable for active duty in the infantry -- he is
not the C.T. Payne of the 89th.
Is anything about this guy on the level?

A Mystery |
The previous item may have
incorrect information from Ancestry.com. They have been contacted for
verification, but there are still other questions hanging. Records
do not show either Charles T. Payne, or Charles W. Payne of Kansas
serving in the US Army, only the US Navy. The above report must remain "unconfirmed," for now.

A

Here is another
source that comments on this matter.
Now, if there is an error, it appears
that it may be an incorrect middle initial at
ancestry.com
which is cross-checked to the 1930 Census:
Father: Charles T. Payne b: JUN 1861 in Missouri
Mother: Della
Wolfley b: MAY 1863 in Ohio
Marriage 1 Leona McCurry b: 4 MAY
1897 in Peru, Kansas Married: 28 DEC 1921 in Kansas
Children
Madelyn Lee Payne b: ABT 1922 in Wichita, Sedgwick, Kansas
Charles W.
Payne b: ABT 1924 in Kansas
Arlene Payne b: ABT 1926 in Kansas
However, the Census data only identifies Charles Payne
without a middle initial.
This
ABC News
report says Obama's great uncle Charles T. Payne had enlisted in
1943 along with most of his high school graduating class. He
served in a mortar squad, then a communications squad rigging telephone
lines.
Stay tuned. |
Report Bogus |
Yesterday's Latest News featured a
report about Obama's "uncle,"
Charles Payne's, WW II experiences.
The report is most probably in error.
This item
discusses the sources of the
confusion, that appear to be erroneous
data in several archival databases.
I checked my
Obama's Family page and Madelyn Dunham was raised in Augusta, Kansas.
There’s an ABC News
report that says Charles T. enlisted in 1943, with
most of his graduating class.
There is an
entry in the World War
II Kansas Selective Service Index for the US Army for a Charles E.
Payne, Augusta, Kansas, dated June 1943.
It is reasonable to
assume that Charles E. Payne should be Charles T. Payne, and is an entry
made in error.
That doesn’t explain the
discrepancy in the ancestry.com
records, identifying Madelyn Dunham's brother as Charles W. Payne.
I am still waiting for a return email
from them.
The
website "Sweetness & Light," a normally reliable source, has a
report entitled "89th Division Site 'Confirms' Obama’s Story." A statement
below the article heading says "S&L had it
first!"
At the bottom of the page is this comment -- "This
article was posted by Steve Gilbert on Wednesday, May 28th, 2008 at
11:13 am"
S&L appears to be the source of this report, but I
wouldn't be critical of them.
If Obama would make public the facts
of his life,
these kinds of reports and The Obama
File would not
exist. There would be no reason for
them. Remember,
Obama has lived for almost 50 years without leaving any footprints -- none! There
is no Obama documentation -- no bona
fides -- no paper trail -- nothing.

Obama is personally responsible for every single fishing expedition
on the Internet, and if he wants all these investigations to end, all he
has to do is release his personal documents and records. The
American People have a RIGHT to know who the man occupying the Oval
Office is.
