Another Obama Whopper During the campaign, Obama told a story about his "uncle," Charles Payne's, WW II experiences to burnish his all-American upbringing.  But Obama made a gaffe when he said his great uncle liberated Auschwitz.  Well, Russian troops liberated Auschwitz, so the story changed that Payne was part of the force that liberated Ohrdruf, a subcamp of the Buchenwald concentration camp, in April 1945.

Well, is this story a gaffe, or a lie, on top of a lie, on top of a lie.

Records show that a Payne, C. T. served as a private with Company K, 355th Infantry Regiment, 89th Infantry Division, during World War II.  According to records, the C.T. Payne listed on the roster of the 89th Infantry Division, may NOT be a relative of Obama.

Genealogy records show that Obama's grandmother Madelyn only had one brother, Charles W., and a sister Arlene.  Charles W. was born to Rolla Charles Payne and Leona McCurry (nee) in 1924.

Not only that, It seems that "Uncle Charles" was in the Navy.  Payne, Charles W., enlisted in the US Navy on November 10, 1942, at Board #4, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.  His US Navy serial number was 6293977.

There was a Charles T. Payne in the family.  He was Obama's great great grandfather.  He joined the military just after Pearl Harbor amid the fear and confusion on a "60 and over" enlistment that was meant to be defense at home.  However, he also joined the US Navy.  Payne, Charles T., enlisted on December 13, 1942, also at Board #4, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.  His US Navy serial number was 3427439.

Charles T. Payne was born in 1861.  He would have been 81 years old, and totally unacceptable for active duty in the infantry -- he is not the C.T. Payne of the 89th.

Is anything about this guy on the level?

A Mystery The previous item may have incorrect information from Ancestry.com. They have been contacted for verification, but there are still other questions hanging.  Records do not show either Charles T. Payne, or Charles W. Payne of Kansas serving in the US Army, only the US Navy.  The above report must remain "unconfirmed," for now.

World War II Kansas Selective Service Index
Search for Kansas Soldiers that served during World War II.

This database contains more than 227,000 entries of male and female Kansas veterans of the armed forces who served between September 16, 1940 and June 30, 1946.  This data comes directly from Adjutant General Selective Service Board lists.  The information in this database was input by KSHS volunteers and staff and includes the name of the veteran, the county from which s/he served, branch of service, whether enlisted or inducted (drafted) and date, the service/serial number, order number if "registered", and sometimes additional data such as deceased or discharge data.

A seach of this database shows that the only Charles W., or Charles T. Payne, from Kansas, were in the US Navy.

Here is another source that comments on this matter.

Now, if there is an error, it appears that it may be an incorrect middle initial at ancestry.com which is cross-checked to the 1930 Census:

Father: Charles T. Payne b: JUN 1861 in Missouri
Mother: Della Wolfley b: MAY 1863 in Ohio

Marriage 1 Leona McCurry b: 4 MAY 1897 in Peru, Kansas
Married: 28 DEC 1921 in Kansas
Children
Madelyn Lee Payne b: ABT 1922 in Wichita, Sedgwick, Kansas
Charles W. Payne b: ABT 1924 in Kansas
Arlene Payne b: ABT 1926 in Kansas

However, the Census data only identifies Charles Payne without a middle initial.

This ABC News report says Obama's great uncle Charles T. Payne had enlisted in 1943 along with most of his high school graduating class.  He served in a mortar squad, then a communications squad rigging telephone lines.

Stay tuned.
And Another Hot Air reports that last week, Barack Obama announced the creation of a cyber security czar, giving his administration more czars than the Russian Empire, but that’s another issue altogether.  In order to convince Americans of the necessity of such a position, Obama gave us this dire scenario in his speech:

"In short, America’s economic prosperity in the 21st century will depend on cybersecurity."

"And this is also a matter of public safety and national security. We count on computer networks to deliver our oil and gas, our power and our water.  We rely on them for public transportation and air traffic control.  Yet we know that cyber intruders have probed our electrical grid and that in other countries cyber attacks have plunged entire cities into darkness."

Rob Rosenberger at Vmyths, a site dedicated to debunking urban legends about cyberspace, said, that he, and other experts, bashed this urban legend more than a year ago.  Now, Obama is spouting it as if it’s a fact.

Rosenberger says Obama has basically told a boogeyman story:

This report is an urban legend because no one knows any details whatsoever.  To be specific:

•  Who plunged entire cities into darkness with the click of a mouse?  No one knows.
•  When did these cyber-terrorists plunge entire cities into darkness with the click of a mouse?  No one knows.
•  Where are these cities that plunged into darkness with the click of a mouse?  No one knows.
•  Why did the cyber-terrorists plunge these cities into darkness with the click of a mouse?  No one knows.
•  How widespread were these cyber-terror blackouts?  No one knows.
•  Whose power grid Internet connection did the cyber-terrorists exploit?  No one knows.
•  How many victims perished in these cyber-attacks?  No one knows.
The Obama Infatuation The Obama infatuation is a great unreported story of our time.  Has any recent president basked in so much favorable media coverage?  Well, maybe John Kennedy for a moment, but no president since.  On the whole, this is not healthy for America.

Our political system works best when a president faces checks on his power.  But the main checks on Obama are modest.  They come from congressional Democrats, who largely share his goals if not always his means.  The leaderless and confused Republicans don't provide effective opposition.  And the press -- on domestic, if not foreign, policy -- has so far largely abdicated its role as skeptical observer.

Obama has inspired a collective fawning.  What started in the campaign has continued, as a study by the Pew Research Center's Project for Excellence in Journalism shows.  It concludes: "President Barack Obama has enjoyed substantially more positive media coverage than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush during their first months in the White House."

The infatuation matters because Obama's ambitions are so grand.  He wants to expand health-care subsidies, tightly control energy use and overhaul immigration.  He envisions the greatest growth of government since Lyndon Johnson.  The Congressional Budget Office estimates federal spending in 2019 at nearly 25 percent of the economy (gross domestic product).  That's well up from the 21 percent in 2008, and far above the post-World War II average; it would also occur before many baby boomers retire.

Are his proposals practical, even if desirable?  Maybe they're neither?  What might be the unintended consequences?  All "reforms" do not succeed; some cause more problems than they solve.  Johnson's economic policies, inherited from Kennedy, proved disastrous; they led to the 1970s' "stagflation."  The "war on poverty" failed.  The press should not be hostile, but it ought to be skeptical.

Obama's rhetoric brims with inconsistencies.  In the campaign, he claimed he would de-emphasize partisanship -- and also enact a highly partisan agenda; both couldn't be true.  He got a pass.  Now, he claims he will control health-care spending even though he proposes more government spending.  He promotes "fiscal responsibility" when projections show huge and continuous budget deficits.  Journalists seem to take his pronouncements at face value even when many are two-faced.

The press has become Obama's silent ally and seems in a state of denial.  But the story goes untold.

And this was in the Washington Post.
Obama's Double Standard Obama's expressed hope today in his weekly address "that we can avoid the political posturing and ideological brinksmanship that has bogged down this (Supreme Court nomination) process, and Congress, in the past" runs against another historical first: his unique role in history as the first US leader to have ever voted to filibuster a Supreme Court nominee.

In January 2006, then-Sen. Obama joined 24 colleagues in a futile effort led by Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., to filibuster the Supreme Court nomination of now-Justice Samuel Alito.

On January 29, 2006, Mr. Obama told George Stephanopulos on "This Week" that he would "be supporting the filibuster because I think Judge Alito, in fact, is somebody who is contrary to core American values, not just liberal values, you know.  When you look at his decisions in particular during times of war, we need a court that is independent and is going to provide some check on the executive branch, and he has not shown himself willing to do that repeatedly."
Muslims Seek Changes From Obama Respect for Islam, a prescription for Palestinian statehood and assurances of a speedy U.S. pullout from Iraq -- that's what Muslims from Morocco to Malaysia say they want to hear from Barack Obama this week when he addresses them from this Arab capital.

His speech Thursday from Cairo University will try to soften the fury toward the United States among so many of the world's 1.5 billion Muslims.

Obama's offer of a new beginning is seen as an attempt to stem the growing influence of extremists -- particularly Iran, with its regional and nuclear ambitions -- and to bolster moderate Muslim allies.

It comes just days ahead of crucial elections in Lebanon and Iran -- where the appeal of militancy will be put to the test -- and amid worsening violence in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The American leader's soaring oratory and Muslim roots have kindled hope among Muslims.

There is doubt the U.S. president can change entrenched foreign policy, particularly what is perceived in the Muslim world as Washington's pro-Israeli bias. What Muslims see as America's repeated failure to hold Israel to its international obligations is a sore point. A construction freeze in Israeli West Bank settlements -- Obama wants it, Israel rejects it -- is shaping up as a major test.

Obama's initial actions have earned him good will. He's reached out to Muslims in an interview with an Arab satellite TV station, in video message to Iranians on the Persian new year and in a speech to the Turkish parliament. He ordered Guantanamo prison closed within a year and said the U.S. would not engage in torture, reversing two Bush policies seen here as having targeted Muslims.

Obama gets some credit up front for just being himself. Many were inspired by his victory, emotionally connecting to his African and Muslim roots and his childhood in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation.

"It's so exciting to have a black man run the entire world," said Awni Shatarat, 45, a clothing store owner in the Palestinian refugee camp of Baqaa in Jordan.
