Good afternoon,

As i stated in my previous email, there have been a group of individuals 
trying to bring me into discredit for quite a while. As i also stated in 
the previous email, i suspect these people to be responsible for this 
defacement and the abuse of my nick/email for this.

I've done a little research and asking around and the information i 
acquired gives strong indications that my initial suspicions where 
indeed right.

The group of people i'm talking about names itself PHC, "Phrack High 
Counsil" (not related to phrack.org), a group of malevolent crackers. 
These people hang in the channel #phrack on the EFnet IRC network. They 
have a website where they showcast their latest actions and statements: 

http://phrack.efnet.ru/.

The acquired the following information in chronological order:

1.

At approximately 16:10 CET the cryptome.org defacement was first brought 
under my attention on EFnet in privmsg:

When i saw this, the person was already gone. A WHOWAS request revealed 
the following information:

smart.databit.org runs a webserver which contains a mailto link to 
'voux@efnet.ru', the top-level domain of phrack.efnet.ru, the website of 
PHC. Other people confirmed too, that smart.databit.org is used by 
PHC-people.

At approximately 16:30 CET, i joined the ircsnet.net network. At #ircs, 
i saved the logfile 'ircs.txt' as attached.

Interesting bits to note are, that at least 'shiftee' and 'halfdead' are 
associated with PHC, and 'morgan' most likely too. They seemed to have a 
lot of fun.

At approximately the same time, i had the following private conversation 
with halfdead, of who i expect that he at least knows more about this. 
See the attached logfile 'halfdead.txt'.

Much later at approximately 18:30 CET i obtained the following 
channel-log of #phrack @ EFnet. This log starts at approximately 15:50 
CET. Apparently at the time the cryptome.org hack was done. See the 
attached file 'phrack-channel.txt'.

Interesting bits to note are:
   - e~bighawk_ <~cryptome@cryptome.vwh.net> has joined #e~#phrack, 
Apparently there was IRC'd from the compromised cryptome host to 
EFnet/#phrack.
   - shiftee seemed to know about this defacement, before this bighawk_ 
<~cryptome@cryptome.vwh.net> joined #phrack
and advertised the cryptome.org host.
   - Based on halfdead's reaction, he seems to have known before the 
join of 'bighawk_' too.
   - Halfdead's reaction is remarkable, almost friendly towards 
'bighawk_', when in reality our relation is very hateful.
   - It's also remarkable that 'bighawk_' joined #phrack while the hack 
was 'hot', from the compromised host.
   - The people inside #phrack seem to have a lot of fun, especially 
halfdead.

On a private channel on EFnet, later that day. (Note that the identity 
of the person who provided me with this information is
covered by HIDDEN, as he requested):

dudenum apparently has some insights..


These 5 points give strong indications of a link with PHC. Various other 
people i talked with, suggested that PHC is behind it. There motive is 
also clear, in the past i criticised PHC quite a bit and made fun of them.

I hope this information gives starting points on where to continue your 
research. I'm in the process of acquiring more related information, once 
i got some more, i ll provide you with it. If you have any further 
questions,  please ask them!

Once again, i like to say that i have absolutely nothing to do with the 
cryptome.org defacement.
