Sample Flight Plan



SPECIAL THANKS TO LARRY NEBRON!!!!!!
The following ACARS messages are the COMPLETE "Flight Plan" that
the Captain has in his hands to fly the actual trip of United
Flight 954 (Boeing 777) from San Francisco to London on October
19, 1997.  Normally, he has this copy in his hands before he
boards the aircraft.  But United Airlines has the habit of
resending the entire thing over ACARS if there is some revision
to the original one.  And Larry lives close enough to SFO to be
able to capture the entire 40 or 50 messages without a single
garbled word!!!  I have taken the liberty to put them all
together in logical sequence and deleted the many intervening
messages to come up with the following.
          These abbreviations might help to understand parts of
the message.
RCA - reach climb altitude        ZBO - zone (miles) burn off
POD - point of descent            T/C - true course
DCT - direct                      M/C - magnetic course  
DSC - descent                     M/H - magnetic heading
EET - estimated elapsed time      ZND - zone miles
CHPT - check point                ZNT - zone time
DRIFT - degrees (L or R) of wind  TTL - total time
A/W - airway name                 GS - ground speed
TRP - Height of Tropopause(1000ft)TAS - true air speed
MCH - Mach                        MAC - center of gravity
FIR - flight information region
ETOPS - Extended operations (on one engine!!!!)
