technician with a general-class commercial license issued by the
       FCC.

Is the power cord properly connected to the battery and the radio?

Is the antenna cable properly connected to the antenna and the
       radio?

Are the power cord and antenna cable frayed or broken?

Is the microphone cable securely connected to the radio?

Does the microphone button operate normally?

Are the VOLUME control, SQUELCH control, [1W/25W] button, and tuning
       knob set properly?

Is the fuse blown? If it is, replace it with a 6-amp fuse.

NOISE SUPPRESSION

The MTX-100 has built-in noise suppression circuits to guard against
interference from engine ignitions and similar sources of interference. If
you follow the suggested location and installation guidelines, you should
not have a noise problem.

However, if you do have noise problems, Radio Shack sells additional noise
suppression components. Follow the instructions that come with the
components.
