TRC-444 40-Channel 2-Way CB Radio
(210-1572A) Base Station Faxback Doc. # 40686
Using The CB as A Base Station
Although this CB is designed for mobile use, you can also use it as a base
station. To do so, you need the following items.
12-volt DC power supply (such as Cat. No. 22-120)
CAUTION: Most 12-volt DC power supplies plug into a standard AC outlet
to produce DC power. Before connecting your CB to a 12-volt DC
power supply, read and follow the instructions included with the
power supply.
Base station antenna (such as Cat. No. 21-967)
Coaxial antenna cable and connectors
NOTE: Your local Radio Shack Store carries coaxial antenna cable and
connectors.
Follow these steps to install the CB as a base station.
1. Mount the base station antenna as described in its owner's manual.
WARNING: Use extreme caution when you install or remove a base station
CB antenna. If the antenna starts to fall, let it go! It could
contact overhead power lines. If the antenna touches the power
line, contact with the antenna, mast, cable, or guy wires can
cause electrocution and death. Call the power company to remove
the antenna. DO NOT attempt to do so your self.
2. Route the antenna cable to the CB, then connect the cable to the ANTENNA
jack on the back of the CB.
3. Connect the black wire to the DC power Supply's negative (-) terminal.
4. Connect the red wire and orange wire, with in-line fuse, to the DC power
supply's positive (+) terminal.
5. Connect the DC power supply to a standard AC outlet.
Connecting Optional External Speakers
You can connect your CB to an external CB speaker and a public-address
speaker.
External CB Speaker
To connect an external CB speaker to the CB, use an 8-Ohm speaker capable
of handling 3 to 5 Watts of power (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 21-549).
The speaker's cable must have a 1/8-inch plug. Simply plug the speaker
cable into the CB's EXT SP jack.
NOTE: When you connect an external speaker, the CB's internal speaker auto-
matically disconnects.
Public Address Speaker
To connect a PA speaker to the CB, use an 8-Ohm speaker capable of handling
5 or more Watts of power (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 21-549).
The speaker's cable must have a 1/8-inch plug. Simply plug the speaker
cable into the CB's PA SP jack.
To use the CB as a PA system, see "Using the Public Address Function."
NOTE: When you set CB/PA to PA, the CB's internal speaker automatically
disconnects.
