Where to Mount Your Antenna?

Obviously, you should mount your antenna mast at a location that gives the
best mechanical support and where it enables the signal to clear large
objects. Usually this will be on the roof, secured to a gable or to a
chimney. If the chimney emits a large volume of smoke and soot, this
could form conductive deposits on the antenna elements that could lower
its efficiency. To mount the mast securely, you must use guy wires,
especially with masts over 10 feet (3 m) high.

An omni-directional antenna can be mounted at a maximum height of 60 feet
(18 m) above ground level provided:

1. The antenna site is located more than 1-1/4 miles (2 km) from the
    nearest airport runway, and,

2. The ground elevation above mean sea level of the antenna site is no
greater than of the nearest airport.

If you do not satisfy both conditions, then do not mount your antenna
higher than 20 feet (6 m) above ground. Refer to FCC Bulletin 1001 h for
further information. This bulletin may be obtained by sending a written
request to the FCC.

Check local zoning ordinances for antenna installation regulations.

Assembly Instructions

WE suggest that you read through the instructions first, then check the
parts with the illustration (Figure 1, Faxback Doc. # 52169) to see that
everything has been included.

To mount your antenna, you will need a mast no larger than 1-1/4" (32 mm)
in outside diameter, coax cable and connectors. Your RadioShack store has
a complete line of CB accessories: coax cable assemblies (with connectors)
from 20 feet (6 m) up to 100 feet (30 m) in length: masts, insulators,
stand-offs, etc.

Your antenna package includes the following parts:

Description Quantity Part No.

Radiator Assembly .......... 1 ...... 5-0522-1
Radial Rods ................ 3 ..... 10-0008-2
Mounting Bracket ........... 1 ..... 10-0665-1
U-Bolt ..................... 1 ..... 15-0275-1
Lockwashers ................ 2 ..... 15-0008-1
Hex Nuts ................... 2 ..... 15-0052-1

1. Assemble radial rods by screwing one jam nut on the threaded end of
each rod and placing one radial rod cap on the opposite end of each
    rod.

2. Screw each radial rod into the hub of the radiator assembly hand
tight, then tighten jam nut against hub to secure.

3. Place the radiator rod cap on the end of radiator rod of the assembly.

4. Mount assembled antenna on mounting bracket with the mounting lock
washer and the mounting nut, being sure to tighten nut securely.

Grounding Your Antenna

For proper lightning protection and to insure noise-free operation, the
antenna must be properly grounded. Drive a 1/2" x 4' to 8' ground rod
into the ground as close as possible to the antenna base. Connect a #8
or larger copper or aluminum wire between the base of the antenna and the
ground rod. Use the U-bolt as the connection point.
