Emergency Lantern
(610-0856) Power Faxback Doc. # 53154

Charging Batteries

If you want the Emergency Spotlight to light automatically, so you can
find it during a power outage, set the lantern's switch to ON. Otherwise,
leave it set to OFF.

Before using the lantern, you must charge the batteries for about 24
hours. Flip the lantern's plug to the charging position, then plug the
lantern into an AC outlet. Regardless of the switch setting, when you
plug the lantern in, its night light glows.

When the Emergency Lantern dims during use, recharge the batteries.

Replacing Batteries

If battery life decreases, even after a long charge, replace the batteries
with two fresh rechargeable Ni-Cd AA batteries (such as RadioShack Cat.
No. 23-125).

1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw from the battery
compartment cover, then lift off the cover.

2. Place the new batteries in the compartment according to the polarity
symbols (+ and -) marked inside.

3. Replace the cover and the screw.

CAUTIONS: Do not dispose of a battery in a fire because it can explode.

Do not open or mutilate a battery. Swallowing a battery can be
           fatal.

Be careful not to short a battery with conducting materials,
such as rings, bracelets, and keys. A battery or conductor
           might overheat and burn.

At the end of a nickel-cadmium battery's useful life, it must
be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local,
county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for
information on recycling or disposal programs in your area.
Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside
collection, drop-off boxes at retailers such as your local
RadioShack store, recycling collection centers, and mail-back
           programs.
