DR-32 32-Minute Digital Recorder with VOX
(140-1171) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 56570

Installing Batteries

You can power the recorder using two AAA batteries (not supplied). For
the best performance and longest life, we recommend RadioShack alkaline
batteries.

Follow these steps to install the batteries.

1. Remove the battery compartment cover by sliding it in the direction of
    the arrow.

2. Insert batteries in the compartment as indicated by the polarity
    symbols (+ and -) inside.

CAUTIONS: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and
               recommended type.

Do not mix old and new batteries (standard, alkaline, or
rechargeable) or rechargeable batteries of different
               capacities.

3. Replace the cover.

When (battery symbol) flashes on the recorder's display, replace both
batteries.

WARNING: Dispose of old batteries properly; do not bury or burn them.

CAUTIONS: Never leave dead or weak batteries in the recorder. Batteries
can leak chemicals that can damage the recorder's electronic
           parts.

If you do not plan to use the recorder for several days, remove
           the batteries.

Note: Do not replace the batteries while the recorder is recording or
playing. All recorded information and stored settings might be lost.

Using an Earphone

For private listening, plug an optional earphone with a 1/8-inch (3.5 mm)
plug into the recorder's PHONE jack. This automatically disconnects the
recorder's internal speaker.

Your local RadioShack store has a wide selection of earphones.

Listening Safely

To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use earphones.

Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After
you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level.

Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume
listening can lead to permanent hearing loss.

Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt
to the volume level, so a volume that does not cause discomfort might
  still damage your hearing.

Traffic Safety

Do not wear an earphone while operating a motor vehicle or riding a
bicycle. This can create a traffic hazard and could be illegal in some
  areas.

Even though some earphones let you hear some outside sounds when
listening at normal volume levels, they still can present a traffic
  hazard.

Using an External Microphone

To record using an optional external microphone, plug the microphone into
the MIC jack on the side of the recorder. This automatically disconnects
the built-in microphone.

Note: Your local RadioShack store has a wide selection of microphones
       designed specifically for recorders.
