Some of the police and security catelogs have advertised a lower tech versi=

For those list members who spend a lot of time probing inside walls,=20
floor cavities, conduit, and other tight places the following=20
dirt-cheap product will be quite helpful.=20
They retail for under $250 per system, and if you shop around you can=20
usually find a tool combination for free when you purchase the scope=20
(I picked up kits of one scope, a camera head, two extensions, and a=20
matching compact cordless drill/screwdriver for $249.99)=20

cument=20
You will want to purchase two or three of these extensions if they do=20
not come with the package you purchase.=20

Instead of purchasing a backup camera and cable I would recommend=20
just purchasing two entire systems so you can swap out parts you may break.=
=20
I would strongly urge you to take a 6 inch length of =C2=A01 inch thick=20
rubber hose and to place it on the end of the gooseneck where it=20
connects to the control unit, and then tape the hose segment into=20
place. This will help you not to pull the connector apart, and will=20
keep you from creeping the insulation up the gooseneck when you over=20
flex it. It will also help you when the camera tip gets caught on=20
something sharp in the wall. I would also recommend that you place a=20
ring of red tape every 6 inches down the shaft of the camera, and=20
then write the respective length on the tape so that you know how far=20
inside the wall you are when you find that pinhole microphone. It is=20
also fairly easy to add a BNC or RCA connector to the side of the=20
unit so that you can record or print what you see prior to trying to=20
retrieve it.=20
One helpful method of using this is to turn on all the lights in a=20
room, or use a strong strobe tube, and to probe up and then down into=20
the wall cavities seeking light leaking from the room and into the=20
wall cavity, then use the built in illuminator and explore the cavity=20
as you go.=20
Also helpful for those of you too cheap to get a colonoscopy as you get old=
er.=20
