I suppose not many people are component level technical these day's,
you don't need to design it to use it.... it does help though.

I was just being provocative to see if anyone would come out of the
woodwork. Most of you don't have profiles so I have no clues as to
your backgrounds, so I've put a little one on for me.

I have setup and tested most of the things I mentioned in my original
post so I'm not really looking for help, just some interesting and
thought provoking topics / views.

I use the internet and VPN's a lot, to remotely control the monitoring
equipment, and VoIP to listen to the audio etc. I am also
experimenting with SDR to do auto-scans with programmed weak signal
detection and logging. So install your equipment, walk away and turn
it on and do your sweeps from the lappy at home or anywhere else you
fancy. You don't have to be on site waiting for results you could be
at home watching your favourite TV program! Webcams are a brilliant
way of making sure you see if anyone comes looking for your equipment,
the software can be set to detect movement and trigger an alarm as
well as taking there picture (doesn't stop them stealing or breaking
it before you can turn up though).

Anyone into finding the devices, modifying them or tampering with them
to cause them to malfunction? Then setting a trap for the installer/
repairer. Engineering the situation to bring the culprit to light.

Have fun, but stay away from the dark side.

Mike
