My thought on the sound of a vacuum cleaner running was, whether the
business is closed or not, if the location is being monitored while you are
there the bad guy hearing a vacuum cleaner running and even things being
moved around will chalk it up to the cleaning crew doing their job. I am new
at this but the classes I have taken have all suggested not using a radio
station where you could have to discern whether the transmission you are
hearing is from a bug, or the actual radio station.

For correlation someting like 2 dtmf tones that switch every 5-10
seconds works very well. Easy to create with any audio package, then
record onto CD/mp3 and play around the area. If you want to be more
covert use a radio station, not quite as good but will do the job.

If you can, utilising the buildings PA system to folld the building
with your source is great.

Vacumb cleaner (grey noise) sounds like a confusion between 'known
sound source' and 'sound masking'.
