DSL Filter Trick

Buy a half dozen DSL filters with a modular jack and plug, and daisy
chain them together, and plug a Siemon banjo into both ends, and tape
or epoxy the banjo's to a small plastic box, and stow the filters
inside the box.

When you are performing your TSCM inspections on phone lines, or on
digital phones audio breakthrough is a real concern, but the AGC
circuit on most audio amplifiers will fail to amplify the signal
because the digital signals or 60 Hz will end up with the amplifier
muting the signal, or with the operator turning down the audio
because of the digital noise in this ears, and thus missing a masked
audio signal.

Even with a fully digital phone you can still get enough audio
bleeding through (even when the phone is on hook) that you have to
very carefully examine the signals present on the wires.
