Attorneys given more time to gather evidence

by Erin C. Hevern • Daily News

Two Southeast District Court cases scheduled for
preliminary hearings or arraignment Thursday were
moved forward to allow the attorneys time to
continue evaluating evidence and paperwork.

Cash Aaland, attorney to Wahpeton resident
Anthony Siemieniewski, said there's been some
evidence that hasn't been seen yet. Siemieniewski
has been charged with interception of wire or
oral communications, or eavesdropping. Other
discoveries in connection to the case are also
still in the process of being reviewed.

The alleged victims, Skylar Holte and Heather
Sondrol, claim Siemieniweski, their landlord, had
placed a camera with a microphone in a heating
vent in their bedroom. Siemieniweski, who lives
next door, allegedly ran wires from the camera to
his house, which when plugged in, would allow him
to view and hear anyone in the bedroom of the
rental home. The charges, sworn by Wahpeton
Police Officer April Jose, state Siemieniewski
set up the camera approximately two years ago.

Siemieniewski is now scheduled to appear in court
for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 7.

Rhonda Thiel of Wahpeton also appeared Thursday
with her attorney, John Bullis, and waived her
preliminary hearing. Thiel is charged with
exploitation of a vulnerable adult, a class 'A' felony.

District Judge Richard Grosz has allowed Bullis
and Assistant State's Attorney Ron McBeth at
least 30-45 days to work through paperwork and
acquire any additional evidence. Due to the
extension, the case has now been assigned to
Southeast District Court Judge Daniel Narum.
