In this case some fool who had just gotten out of prison, and so
still had his prison ID bracelet with jim jumps the counter at the
local 7-11. The clerk, who is a veteran, and a war hero grabs a
hammer, and beats the robber within an inch of his life. The local
police then use the robbers own dog to track in down, arrest him, and
then take him to the emergency room.

We do things a little differently in these parts.

The first link below is a video of the attack.

Hammer-Wielding Clerk Fights Robber

BOSTON -- Police in Gloucester, Massachusetts are crediting a
crime-solving canine with their latest collar.

The bizarre caper began early Tuesday morning when a would-be robber
stormed into a convenience store and jumped over the counter.

The store's 64-year-old clerk immediately went on the offensive,
striking the robber several times with a hammer.

As the fight continued a customer jumped in to aid the clerk, picking
up the hammer and landing several blows himself.

Eventually the robber fled on foot.

When police arrived on the scene they found a dog patiently waiting
outside with a leash still attached to its collar.

They followed the dog home and its owner led them straight to their
man...suspect Ricky Marshall.

Marshall had been walking his friend's dog when he decided to rob the
store, and left the pooch behind when things didn't go as he'd planned.

Fazeel Shahid, the convenience store owner, said he was just glad
that his clerk is okay.

"He was awesome, just awesome," said Shahid.

Store Clerk Attacks Would-Be Thief With Hammer
Dog Leads Police To Suspect

BOSTON -- A would-be crook chose the wrong convenience store clerk to
rob in Gloucester Tuesday.

The entire showdown was caught on surveillance video that Gloucester
authorities said was some of the best they've ever seen.

Just as the clerk was opening the register, the robber came in, threw
the lottery machine to the ground and lunged at the clerk.

But the clerk was ready for him, armed with a hammer.

As the clerk managed to get the robber into a head lock, a customer
jumped in and also took a few swipes with the hammer.

The clerk's co-worker said the clerk was just acting in self defense.

"He thought, if [the thief] could do it, he could hold the machine
and jump over, [then] he might be able to hurt him too. That's why he
just tried to save him self," Nomi Bhatta said.

Police arrested Ricky Marshall, 27, after a dog that he brought to
the scene, led police to his front door.

Marshall is being held on $10,000 bail.
