Well, hard to define where to start. This is your basic, no frills spectrum
analyzer.
It covers from about 200KHZ to 1.2Ghz, continous tuning. It has a built in
demodulator, so that you can
hear what you are seeing on the screen. Portable (except the batteries are
out of it), it's main selling poing
is the price. They are going for around $1000, I have used it for a while,
bought myself a bells and whistles
HP ($40,000) and just don't need it any more.
Perfect for a beginner. You really need to know spectral analysis to use it
properly.
PROS:
cheap, simple, easy to repair and maintain.
CONS:
Does not have a 'memory' so what you see is what you get.
Does not go up beyond 1.2GHZ, so without a down converter it will not find
extremely high frequency bugs.

I use it on lower threat level stuff, (divorce cases etc) and for that it is
perfect.
There are lots of spectrum analyzers out there, but not many that can also
be called a 'countermeasures receiver'.
This one was specifically designed for countermeasures work. Another
similar device would be an AVCOM
analyzer, very close in operation and bandwidth, but about twice the price.

It is all in what you want to do with it, a lot of folks start with an
OSCAR, this unit can find things the OSCAR overlooks.
(OSCAR starts at around $14,000 dollars).

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance
