TSCM Rule #634 - When you are dealing with Unions, Union Representatives,
or Union type activities always assume that bugs will be present and that
your conversations will be recorded. Thus act and speak appropriately,
and consider having bug sweeps performed both prior to, during, and after

Sycamore firefighter charged with eavesdropping
Associated Press
6:18 AM CDT, June 3, 2009
SYCAMORE, Ill.
A firefighter in the northern Illinois community of Sycamore has been
charged with eavesdropping.
Authorities contend 42-year-old Kurt Mathey recorded a conversation
between his fire chief and an assistant chief without their knowledge.
Mathey is out on bond after being indicted on one count of felony
eavesdropping. He's on administrative leave from the department.
Mathey is the former president of Sycamore's firefighters union, which
has been in heated negotiations with the city for several months. Earlier
this year, an arbitrator recommended a wage increase and city officials
said that to meet it, the city would have to lay off two firefighters.
The topic of the fire officials' conversation hasn't been made public.
City officials won't comment on the situation.
