Hi I noticed a very interesting thing with the symphony cards and the computers I have them in right now that I thought might be helpful to others if they are having the same problem. I have the symphony cars in 2 compaq (barff, but I got them for free, and they aren't much good for anything else except routing) 486sx25's with 20MB ram each. The boxes are the flat desktop style as opposed to towers. I noticed that when the covers are screwed on so the metal of the cover is contacting the metal of the back of the case, the ping times and transfer rates really stink (about average 120ms and 25k/s) even on a very short link (about 30 feet). But, if I put cardboard to insulate the cover from the case, the ping times go way down, and the transfer rates go way up (to about 18ms and almost 70k/s) over the exact same 30 foot link. This really doesn't make much sense to me, as even when the cardboard insulators I made are in place, the cover is still in contact with the case by the little metal clips that hold the over on on the bottom, but having the back of the case directly toucing the cover seems to cause a major problem. I wonder if it has something to do with the flat case, and the cover being parallel with the card? I thought I'd let you know about this incase you know others that are having the same problem.
